ABOUT ME
I'm a trial lawyer, specializing in human rights, intelligence, and national security matters. My work revolves around Latin America, The Netherlands (where the Court I argue before is), and, lately, northern Iraq.
I'm a militant atheist: Have as many gods as you like, but the minute your gods try to make the rules for my life, we won't get along (cf. Israel/Palestine, 4,000-year-old fairytale still causing death and mayhem....right now).
I'm a United Stateser: We're all "Americans", from Alaska to Tierra del Fuego. As José Martí wrote, "La América es Una!"
As such, let's end the genocidal U.S. Embargo against the people of Cuba, our American neighbors who have never done us any harm.
I am passionate about many things, so a note to those of you who don't want any "drama." Drama is the Greek word meaning "action", as in, to act, to do. If you don't want to act or do anything, we won't get along either.
But apart from my work, my one great passion is poetry, which I read in English, Spanish, Latin, and German (I need translations for just about any other language). If you go to parties (especially swanky, snobby, "intellectual" ones), here's a great party trick for stopping a conversation dead: When everyone is talking about the latest great movie.....or novel, or opera, or museum exhibition, or even the ballet (or, heaven avert, the latest great "song"), ask them this: "When was the last time you bought a new book by a living American poet?" When the silence of the grave ensues, let them off the hook: Ask them to NAME a living American poet. That'll banish artsy pretensions in two shakes of a lamb's tail.
Ask anything else you'd like to know....... Now about you......
GUYS I'M LOOKING TO MEET
I tend to avoid guys who use the word "normal" to describe either themselves, or the sort of guy they are looking for, or any other dynamic human being. All that word does is tell me how deeply afraid you are of being in any way "different." I am interested in meeting guys who are....different.
I tend to like guys who DON'T KNOW "what they want." I tend not to like guys who "say" they are goal-orientated, highly-driven, together, balanced, "drama-free" or any other of the trite labels that pass for thought in the constantly Oprahized psychobabble our culture has become.
If "friends and family" are "the most important" thing in your life, we probably aren't a fit. Value being alone; value the insecurity and "unknowingness" of what life basically is; spend more time thinking than talking. In other words, I suppose, I am looking for guys who are not fundamentally....afraid. There is no virtue that is based on fear.
Oh...and if "music is your life", I'll be genuinely interested to know which instrument you play at least half-way well....and how many lonely hours you spent learning to play it (piano, in my case). If you mean "passively listening to music" is your life....say so.
Yes, I realize how "serious" this might all make me seem, and that would be a correct interpretation. I can be as much fun as anyone, but I do take life seriously. As Mae West said: "You only live once, but if you do it right, once should be enough."
Say Hi....if you dare :-)
