Met on RealJock: Introducing the First of Our RealJock Couples

A couple of weeks ago, we put out a call for RealJock couples to step forward (and at the end of this piece, we renew the call to arms!). Now, we'd like to introduce a few of those couples, and tell the story of how they found love. In this case, we're proud to be profiling two RealJock guys who had the most romantic first date possible. Yes, that's right—moving furniture.
The First Date and Beyond
Tempo94 and Sigp339 met nearly two years ago in Kentucky, when Sigp339 did a RealJock search for guys in his area. He messaged Tempo94, who was new in town and doing an internship a mere 20 minutes away. In fact, that casual proximity provided the opportunity for their first date. As Sigp339 puts it, "I needed someone to help me move a couch out of a friend's house. I asked if he would and he said yes. It took him a long time to come down to meet me that first time, but I assumed that like me, he was a little nervous." And Tempo94 puts that first meeting in perspective: "I was so happy we met in an unfashionable way, and not over drinks or at a bar." So there's a hot new first date idea: couch moving! (Hey, it clearly worked for these guys....)
From there, attraction took its course—but that attraction runs well beyond the physical. Here's Sigp339 on that initial attraction: "He wasn't like other guys I had met. He played college soccer, wasn't obvious at all, and didn't seem interested in getting in my pants the first time I met him." Maybe Tempo94's restraint can be attributed to the vulnerability he saw in his new partner. As he told us, "He had the most genuine aura about him. I really saw a bit of myself in him; a young, wet behind the ears man who wanted a confidant."
Love Stories...Sort Of
Since then, these two have had a lot of fun—and collected their share of cute and funny stories. Let's start with cute. Here's Tempo94: "We went to an enormous gay bar here in Kentucky, and he somehow got too drunk too fast by accident. He kept saying he was sleepy, and we had not been out long at all! Long story short, I found a nook in the bar and let him fall asleep in my lap while we sat on the floor. I woke up to one of my friends gasping because he had been looking for us all night, and found us asleep on the floor of an evidently well-known hook-up spot!" Aw, that's sweet! But then there's this rather less romantic tale, courtesy of Sigp339: "We have traveled with each other to several cities. When we were in San Francisco, he caught me making out with another guy (this was before we were together as a couple) and he left me down there to fend for myself. I turned around to see him leaned up in the back of a taxi, both middle fingers pressed against the glass as he went down the Castro. Nothing like that has happened in a long time!" We're very glad to hear that last part.
Life Lessons
These guys wanted to be clear that their relationship is no fairy-tale; as Sigp339 says, "We've definitely had our share of ups and downs." But they also have some lessons in love that they've learned from each other over the course of the last couple of years. Tempo 94 has some wise counsel for anyone looking for love; Sigp339, he says, "has taught me that love can be found anywhere. I always lived life waiting for my love to crash into me, avoiding dating websites and the like. But, the second I put myself out there, I was swept away." And Sigp339 has his own words of wisdom: "You have to be satisfied with yourself and who you are first, then when you least expect it, someone will come along that you feel complements you as a person. Also, love develops over time. Relationships take time to build. Relax and take things slow; that's the best way to develop one that stands a better chance of lasting."
Clearly, these guys complement each other. We wish them every happiness!
