The Daily Grind—Monday, January 10

By DJ Grind

Here it is! The soundtrack for 2011 has just hit radio, leaked overnight by Camp Britney. "Hold It Against Me" is Brit's much-anticipated comeback single, and the first taste of an album that's already been described as the pop record of the decade. With elements of pulsating trance and grinding dubstep, there's no doubt this one is headed straight to #1.

"Hold It Against Me" delivers an intense and filthy beat that's unique from today's mainstream pop music. It's not bubble gum (Katy) or party girl (Ke$ha) or electro-pop (Gaga). Rather, it's hard core adrenaline pop that's almost brazen in its delivery of raw sexual energy. As one music critic wrote: "It's the kind of beat that will get all of the boys in trouble at the club and all of the girls really, really pregnant."

A la "Shattered Glass," the song's beat completely drops out in the chorus and allows B to shine with a massive, chant-worthy, hands-in-the-air chorus that will no doubt become the hook for every club remix. And, while the vocals aren't anything to write home about (that's not why we're here folks), there's something about Brit's confident vocal mediocrity that's just brilliant.

Whether you like her or hate her, this single is going to be huge—so it's best to get on board now. I certainly am.
