RealJock reporter wins national gay writing award

Around the Gym reporter Paul E. Pratt took home one of two journalism awards at the National Lesbian and Gay Journalism Association’s “2006 Excellence in Journalism Awards” in Las Vegas, Nev.

Pratt, who writes the man-on-the-street column Around the Gym, is a frequent contributor to publications throughout the United States, such as the San Francisco Bay Times, Outlook Arizona Online, HIV-Plus Magazine and others.

Pratt's "Happy Ending for 'Tragic Movie'" took home Excellence in News/Features writing honors. A world-exclusive November 2005 cover story in Outlands Magazine (Reno, NV), Pratt interviewed the first gay couple set to legally marry in Spain and asked Marriage Equality advocates about the union's possible global impact.

"Winning any award is such an honor," Pratt said. "To have my work recognized by a group of my peers, though, is especially meaningful. This is such a wonderful and unexpected surprise."

Pratt received a plaque of recognition and $300 award in front of approximately 150 representatives of the city's top media, entertainment and guests gathered in a luxury suite at the Palms. In addition to the evening's award ceremony was a silent auction fundraiser raising money for the nonprofit NLGJA-LV.
