Everyone in a boy band looks gay. Now, one of the boys in the band has come out. After months of gossip blog rumors, Lance Bass, 29, of the mega-boy-band 'N Sync says he's gay and in a "very stable" relationship with a reality TV show star, according to a report in the Associated Press.
Bass told People magazine that he worried his coming out would hurt the supergroup he formed with JC Chasez, Justin Timberlake, Joey Fatone and Chris Kirkpatrick.
"I knew that I was in this popular band and I had four other guys' careers in my hand, and I knew that if I ever acted on it or even said (that I was gay), it would overpower everything," he told People.
After a string of hits like "Bye Bye Bye" and "It's Gonna Be Me," the band went on hiatus in 2002.
Bass, who made headlines for his astronaut training, says he's in a relationship with Reichen Lehmkuhl, 32, who won "Amazing Race" in season four.
Next up for Bass is a sitcom pilot with bandmate Fatone, in which his character will be gay.
"The thing is, I'm not ashamed—that's the one thing I want to say," Bass told People. "I don't think it's wrong, I'm not devastated going through this. I'm more liberated and happy than I've been my whole life. I'm just happy."
