A 23-year-old West Yorkshire policeman has been crowned Mr Gay UK after working the stage in a police-styled uniform in the "dress-to-impress" section of the competition and—of course—stripping down to his swimsuit to reveal an incredibly built bod to match his big white smile.
PC Mark Carter was crowned Mr Gay UK on Saturday, beating out 22 other finalists to become the first out policeman to win the title.
"I was so happy I could finally be myself," Carter told London's Evening Standard. "I thought telling people I was gay would mean no one would want to know me, but at the Mr Gay UK final, I had more people together, supporting me, in one place than I've ever had in my life."
The numbers prove it. According to the Mr. Gay UK official web site, about 50 of Carter's colleagues showed up to root for him wearing t-shirts with his picture on them. He also had the full support of the West Yorkshire police department in participating in the competition.
Carter said his fellow policeman gave him tremendous support as a gay man.
"I was nervous about how my colleagues would react, but they have been absolutely brilliant," he told the Evening Standard.
Competition organizer Terry George said: "Mark is a great example of a young gay man achieving his goals in life. If anyone assumed it was just bimbos that entered competitions like this, Mark's proving them wrong."
