Bravo TV Picks the Sexiest Gay Celebs of 2006

By Walter Armstrong, Bravo's broadband channel for the gay set, is holding an online competition to pick the sexiest gay celebrities of 2006. A common (OK, the more jaded might call it tired) gay marketing gimmick, this "sexiest" poll comes in three flavors.

There's the "Sexiest Gay Celebrity" category, with favorites including 'N Sync's Lance Bass, Grey's Anatomy's T.R. Knight, talk-show host Ellen DeGeneres, singer Melissa Etheridge, and filmmaker Pedro Almodovar (apparently sexy in that "fat, queeny, big hair, genius" way). Things heat up considerably in the "Sexiest Gay-Friendly Celebrity," with nominees such as Brangelina, Jake Gyllenhaal, Hugh Jackman, and Penelope Cruz. "Sexiest Gay of the Year" may offer the best eye-candy—it's the 12 hottest entries for "Gay of the Day," an feature in which people send in photos and descriptions of themselves.

The poll went up last Saturday along with a rerun of Manhunt: The Search for America's Most Gorgeous Male Model, which first premiered on Bravo in 2004. As the press release breathlessly states, "The eight-episode one-hour series will be rolled out with one exclusive online premiere each week, surrounded by photos, interviews, Q & A's and blogs so fans can catch up on what their favorite contestants have been doing since shooting ended."

The contest ends December 28, and winners are announced January 5. Depending on your definition of "sexy," you may or may not be rushing to vote. Check it out at
