    Hello guys,

This Saturday is Bulgaria's third Pride festival and we are really working our asses off to make it as good as possible. The first two years it was basically running, not marching, because of all the haters throwing stones and little bombs at us, but this year we are expecting around 700 people (which is a lot for us), so I would like to ask you all for help! It's a small step for human kind, but huge step for Bulgarians. icon_rolleyes.gif

Please, record a short video message for our people saying some nice words about the Pride, tolerance towards gay community and say something about how you feel in your country. You can record whatever you want, we will show almost all of the messages during the Pride and on our website.

So far some members from RealJock have sent videos and they turned out great, so I am very grateful!
I would really appreciate it if you do that.
You can upload them somewhere and send me a link or to vkostov09@gmail.com

Here are some photos from previous Prides:

I'm attempting to make a video message in Bulgarian. I might need you to look over what I've written because I don't want to be an ass and say things wrong in Bulgarian lol. I'll be honest that I wrote my message first in Russian because I already speak Russian well and am currently attempting to translate to Bulgarian. I can pronounce Bulgarian without a problem, though.

What mainly fuels the homophobia in Bulgaria? Tradition? Religion? Ignorrance? etc.

Good luck--though, I don't have a webcam or a camera. Along with many others, I care about what happens around the world to the gay community... and humanity in general.

    Keep us posted!

But doesn't Bulgaria have to have certain protection/anti-discrimination laws in order to part of the EU?

I don't see how people in Bulgaria can have much of a conservative opinion on gays if they're able to let someone like Azis be famous and have his own show icon_rolleyes.gif

I imagine it's a work in progress for many countries in Central and Eastern Europe. Something like gay rights is probably on the back burner because economic stability has been the main concern for these countries since abandoning socialism in the late 1980s. Many former socialist states of the Eastern Bloc have made great strides economically but not socially.

    Hi guys,

There is some tolerance in Bulgaria, I can't say it's terrible, but events like the Pride are somehow too much for some religious institutions, conservative people and mainly neo-nazi organizations who are very aggressive as you can see from the photos.
However, there is no law distinguishing hate crimes from regular assault crimes so let's say a hater who beats me up is gonna get the same punishment as some gypsy who tries to steal my cell phone.

Even though people are getting used to seeing the gay world (there are gay bars, gay artists etc), there is still a huge tension in our society and many gay people are afraid to come out and they live in fear and misery... this is the main reason why I am helping with the Pride, I want young boys and girls to live a normal, happy life like myself.

pocketnico, thanks A LOT for your effort! Even though it is perfectly OK to do the video in English, it would be a very kind gesture to do it in Bulgarian and I will help you if you need anything! icon_smile.gif
I just want to show our people some inspiring messages from you guys or from anyone around the world, especially those who live in more tolerant societies than ours.
Thanks a lot, I really appreciate it and will keep you posted! icon_smile.gif

Some of them were visitors from Greece icon_smile.gif
We usually invite many people from other countries, last year it was great because we had a lesbian couple with a baby - they were very impressive : ))

All right, so this is the message I came up with in Bulgarian. Remember I was working from Russian, so this will probably be strange to you. However, this was the best I could come up with on my own and with the help of a Russian-Bulgarian dictionary :p Please correct any mistakes so I can rehearse this and record the video!
