southbeach1500 saidCalling it "arbitrary and capricious" a Federal judge today voided President Obama's 6 month moratorium on offshore drilling.
The judge cited the flimsy "evidence" presented by Obama's Interior department as inadequate, "it seems to assume that because one rig failed, all companies and rigs doing deepwater drilling pose an imminent danger."
Sanity has prevailed.
Well, let's see.
If a nuclear reactor blows up (something like Chernobyl or Three Mile Island, for instance), wouldn't it be a good idea to stop building more of the same thing until we did some investigating to see if we could make them as safe as possible ?
It's the same thing with the oil rig in the Gulf of Mexico. By BP's own testimony, they have HUNDREDS of these off shore wells around the world. Evidence so far shows that BP ignored all warnings of safety hazards aboard the platform that blew up. It's quite safe to assume that they flout the same warnings concerning all their oil platforms.
REPUBLICAN obsession with DE-regulation claims that we're all better off if businesses regulate themselves. The recent explosion on Wall Street and the recent explosion in the Gulf of Mexico proves that that is BULLSHIT.
The Gulf of Mexico is DEAD because just one oil platform exploded. How many need to explode, how many gulfs, lakes, oceans and other bodies of water need to be destroyed before you would agree that off shore drilling isn't worth DESTROYING THE PLANET ?
The judge in this case is wrong.
It only makes sense to stop and find out what went wrong with that off shore drilling platform. Then, implement and enforce new safety standards for all other platforms.
And, don't forget that 11(?) men went to work that day and were never seen again.
What is a man's life worth ?
This was not an accident.
And, it certainly wasn't a natural disaster, as the ass-wipe Republican Big Oil whores are trying to spin it.
There is every likelihood that the rig would not have exploded if BP had corrected all the safety hazards for which they were repeatedly cited.
Never the less, this will be appealed all the way to the activist Republican U.S. Supreme Court where Big Oil and greed will win out over common sense and saving the planet.
You're an idiot.
