What do you eat before you work out and do you eat an hour before, a half hour before or longer then an hour before?

If I'm hungry and need some quick energy. I'll eat a couple of Pop Tarts, about 60 - 90 minutes before I hit the gym. But most of the time, I won't eat anything before going to the gym.

My usual meal is: multigrain cheerios, milk, almonds, and decaf green tea. An hour later, it's work out time.

Looking at you I never would've guessed that Pop-Tarts have ever passed through those lips. Damn!

I usually have Shotgun or some pre-workout drink and maybe a prune, date or high sugar fruit for quick energy.

I workout first thing in the morning on an empty stomach, but I take creatine to give me energy and drink lots of water during my workout. I find I get lazy if I eat before I workout, But I have eggs and bacon the second I finish usually

Depends on if I'm doing weights, or just cardio, but almost always a banana, some almonds/walnuts/sunflower seeds, and some other good carb too like oatmeal or even beans. I'll even eat an honest bar or something like that if I'm doing weights... gotta have carbs to be able to keep pushing! I try to time it so I've eaten an hour or more before my workout, so I've digested and the energy is there for me.

this is one of my most important meals of the day which is breakfast. What I have:
Start the day off with an orange, grape fruit or mango
an omlette using 3 egg whites and one whole egg with with red, yellow and green peppers with onions and garlic
My power shake which has rolled oats, pumkin seeds, sunflower seeds, seseame seeds, flax seeds, bee pollen, nutritional brewer yeast, whey protein, skim milk, sea moss (Sea weed), banana, strawberries, blue berries and cinnamon.

to end it I drink some green tea along with a few glasses of water

This is eaten about an hour and a half before workout.

    Hello Friends........

    # During exercise athletes primarily rely on pre-existing glycogen stores and fat stores. If your pre-workout meal is eaten at the proper time then you will be assured that your glycogen stores are plenty full and this will optimize performance. Liquid meals can also be an advantage by digesting more rapidly than solid foods as well as provide hydration. Liquid meals can be eaten closer to workouts because they are emptied from the stomach quickly.

    # Pre-workout snacks within 1 hour of competition or practice can be more beneficial to athletes that exercise longer than 60 minutes.

    # It is important to choose primarily carbohydrates before a workout because they are quickly digested, and readily available for fuel.

    Thanks

Generally I'll eat a sweet potato and an apple with a coffee whey mix before a workout.

I usually never eat before my work out, I just drink Gatorade or some yogurt, I drink a shake right after my workout and a full meal(usually chicken salad) 30mins after I'm done with my shake.
