I know they usually say when lifting weights to mix it up I do that by doing the same thing but use different machines or workouts to workout the muscle. I stick to the 4 sets each body part buy workout it out differently, is that good enough? What do you guys do?

I have no real routine. I just make sure to hit all the major muscle groups each week. Sometimes I workout for strength, sometimes for size, sometimes for toning. Since all gains are microscopic, the end result over time is exactly what I've been shooting for.

IMO I when I think of mixing things up when you work out. When your body gets accustomed in doing something week after week your body will not respond and as a result it will stunt your growth. So in order to keep your body growing and to keep it guessing trying changing up your workouts after a 2 months period.

Gains are about progressive overload, rest, and CALORIES.

Each muscle group only has a certain range of motion and method of contraction, so, there's only so much you can do.

Periodization works for some, but, at the end of the day, it's about recovery, stimulation, and calories. When you come to understand that, you'll do well.
