As far as I know, the figure hasn't changed all that much. Each decade it seems something like half of Americans believe that. And they are, of course, always wrong.

This is nothing new. For centuries, christians claimed JC would return "within their lifetime."

Everyone in the year 999 AD was freaking out because they thought he would return at the millennium. He didn't.

And he won't in 2050. Or 2075. Or 2100. Or 3000. Or ever.....................

"66 percent say the Earth will definitely or probably get warmer but it breaks down strongly along political lines, with just 48 percent of Republicans saying so and 83 percent of Democrats."

I wonder what the percentage breakdown on the return of Jesus is.

I think this is pretty interesting too. Intuitively, I would have said that having faith in science and being sceptical of science would be evenly split no matter what your political beliefs.

"Intuitively" and "faith in science" dichotomous of "sceptical"? Now we're talking. It's a mad, mad world.

I doubt it. With those middle eastern looks and a piece of wood that says inri being the closest thing to a passport, he will never make it through airport security.

Well technically That is true. Most of us won't be alive in 2050 right? doesnt that mean that we would meet our savior then?

nah, it's like those carbon emission cuts, where say say 2000, then 2025, then... what they mean to say is there is a 40 percent chance that jesus will return by 2050 and then have that date pushed back

You mean a facial from Jesus? Well I guess he was never with a woman and everyone was saying he was a little limp wristed after that unfortunate incident a couple thousand years ago.

Though I don't think the people in the poll were thinking about this, there actually are some people who argue that the astrological age of aquarius begins in 2051, or sometime around there, and that there are some correlations/coincidences between the symbolism of Christianity and that astrological age... and that it will be an age of enlightenment for humanity... kind of interesting. Entertaining at least icon_lol.gif

This shows you how truly weak-minded some folks are, even in this age.

It was said about the year 2000. Nope, man, I'm still here. It is being said about 2012. I'd bet a large Diet Coke that I'll be here in 2012, too.

It demonstrates the dangers of false belief systems and the folks who embrace them. No matter how you cut it, cults, religion, or whatever mumbo jumbo, are still just that: false.

It shows that, despite having come a long way (we realize the world isn't flat, no matter what church doctrine would say), we still have much work to do in educated folks about the nonsense that is religion, cults, etc.

When I hear specific dates, I always want to ask if God came and told them personally. There are no dates of return in the Bible.
