Sherri Shepard on The View perpetuated dangerous myths about African American gay and bisexual men.

Contact The View and have them issue an apology!

    More info here.

Don't African-American men face enough troublesome challenges in our society without some ignorant right winger from The View making stupid, irresponsible comments about them. It is bad enough that racism is prevalent among many white gay men which has made the situation for black gays even worse.

If you added Sherri Shepherd's IQ and D.L. Hugley's IQ together you would still have one stupid person.

Signed the petition... that's just awful. I'm sick of hearing people talk like that. I get so annoyed when people, mostly girls, tell me to "be careful" because, you know, "the gay thing... you're so at risk"... "I just worry"... meanwhile they go off fucking guys left and right unprotected. Such bullshit!

Sherri takes a literal view of the Bible and she's expressed her belief before that it is a sin for two men to sleep with one another. So her remarks don't surprise me.

But does she or The View need to issue an apology? It's called The View for a reason. This wouldn't be the first time someone on that show has expressed something alleged to be fact though it happens to be false (Hasselback on numerous occasions).

You shouldn't be contacting Sherri, you should get in touch with Whoopi. She will straighten things up.

I'm not surprised at Sheperd, who is a known idiot, but Hughley has usually been good on our issues. So, that's surprising. Unfortunately, in his case, he may have fallen prey to a very unfortunate myth.

Fuck an apology. The View should be charged with Defamation Of Character for knowingly spreading false and harmful information about a particular group of individuals.

I know that won't happen, but it would be cool if someone pressed the issue enough to get the charges filed. Even if the case got dropped, it would still get the point across.

Perhaps maybe theres a half truth to the story, maybe ppl in general are having unprotected sex and gay men are the scapegoat for the rise.

I do think there is a problem with me who have sex on the side with gays and then go home and carry on as though they have no secrets. But DL men fall into all types of society not just the African American culture. It's more so an issue, speaking from experience, in ours that if you were to come out or say your bi, your family/church are very quick to distant themselves from you and consider you some sort of "demon possessed" person. No one, ideally, would like to deal with that so they carry one with a "psuedo" life wife and kids and everything is good, and on ocassion they step out and have their gay sex and life is better.

that's just my take w/o creating a giant speach

LMAO!! I think it's time for The View to switch up the panel. We need a lesbian on there...not Rosie...but maybe Melissa Etheridge who was on this week. Sherri is always speaking some homophobic nonsense anyways...give her the boot. To me...since the past election...The View has been lacking a bit of excitement.

I don’t believe an apology is needed. I DVR the View and listen while cleaning house usually spending most my time yelling at Hasselback, but mostly enjoying Woopie.
So why are African American women leading in infection rates?
A quote from the good Dr. Fenton:
“We know that a lot of the infections are actually coming from male partners who have high-risk behavior,” Fenton said in an interview in his Atlanta office. “In fact, we have looked to see what proportion of infections is coming from male partners who are bisexual and found there are actually relatively few. More are male partners who are having female partners and are injecting drugs or using drugs or have some other risks that may put those female partners at risk of acquiring HIV.”
If I understand his findings; African American men are mostly getting infected from sharing needles or “other”.
If I am an African American man on the “Down Low” who has infected my wife/girlfriend and I am asked if I have had sex with another man, am I going to answer honestly or say I share needles.
The topic that was brought up on the View was not about this; if anyone watched they would know this. It was about the review of the policy, not allowing homosexuals to donate blood.
Then the counter-point was brought up that if we are not going to allow gay men to donate, should we also not allow African Americans because it is this segment of the population that is most infected. Of course, we would not do that because that would be racist.

Melissa co-hosted earlier this week one day. She happens to be a good friend of Elisabeth, who is surprisingly a good voice for gay issues even though she is a right wing republican.

The more marginalised a particular group is, the more dysfunctional it is and more likely to have higher rates of the "negative" aspects of society, eg poverty, crime, unemployment, STDs.

Gay african american men aren't apart of the problem, the groups that marginalise them are, and that includes mainstream hetersexual african american society, which unfortunately is deeply homophobic, ironic huh?

The primary reason why most straight African-American men are homophobic is all the damn religion that infests the black community with their ancient fairy tale taboos. If you didn't have all those storefront churches and baptist preachers, homophobia would probably be much less prevalent in the African-American community. Its all these mythical religious beliefs that are keeping homophobia alive and well in many black neighborhoods across the country.
