Does anyone watch this show? If you do, what do you think of it? We love it and watch it religiously every week. Probably the best open panel discussion on everything gay. Yes, it's also fluffy, but doesn't like little fluff! icon_smile.gif

can be a fun show to watch but Im not very into it cause 99% of the guys are very stereotyped so it's conflicting when youre trying to watch something youre supposed to relate to, other than that its sorta fun.

    That show is stupid.

All 5 are flamers with a lisp, talking about the trashiest stuff ever. Great stereotyping.

I just watched a bunch of clips on YouTube and am completely appalled. HUGE stereotypes. Agree with the last two posters... they all have lisps and talk like girls. Ahhh... so frustrating.

The message I get is that 20% of all lispy gays are girls.

I've watched a few minutes here and there and found I have as much in common with the guests as I have with the cast of the Jersey Shore--you know, gym-laundry-tan.

This show is such an embarassment I want to cry. There is also another horrible show with an all gay male cast that airs on Bravo called The A-List: New York.

The catchphrase is: Housewives. With Balls.

Is this a joke? How vulgar can you get? Not only that it perpetuates the misconstrued notion that Gay men want to be women by referring to them as "Housewives"? Yuck fucking yuck

Oh and look at a thread on IMDB:
    http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1729127/board/nest/173855867?d=173913988&p=1#173913988

is it common for gay guys to...

call each other " girl" or refer to each other as " she" ? im just asking cuz i i noticed they hardly ever say "he" in the show its always "she" or "girl".i know they dont want to be women...so why call each other that?
    -------------------------------------------------------
I swear the Producers are feeding these guys lines! No gay dude I know says "girl" or "girlfriend" to his mates.

    ----------------------------------------------------------------

Another thing about 1 Girl 5 GAYS is one of the guys on the show openly talks about Bareback SEX WTF? This is a nightmare and to think this show is being watched by mostly Heteros?!! I can't confirm it because I don't watch the show, but I read it on the IMDB Board:

    http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1606854/board/nest/175217213?p=1

    From poster bosser1980

QUOTE AUTHOR GOES HEREMatt Barker is just at that young stage where he thinks he knows everything. He's sort of irritating. The episode where he was very open about having bareback sex was so scary. Ok, HERO!

guess i'm in the minority. wouldn't be the first time. i still love it!

how does a show that talks candidly about the love and social lives of candian gay men, embarrass you? yes, some are 'flamers'. yes, some have lisps. others on the show (there are about 20 cast members) are more reserved, masculine, and appear quite intelligent and well-rounded.

so what? why should they influence how you feel about yourself or how others view YOU? if it does, then that's what should be embarrassing.

    they're canadian. icon_razz.gif

j/k. i find some of the guys on the show very attractive, but then again i factor in personality and intelligence measurements just as much as their bicep or dick measurements.

Yerxa, Dean, Jake, Jonathan N. and S. and David all very attractive in my opinion.

After watching a slew of the clips, gotta say i'm disappointed... hell its okay to have a diverse group, but they're all cookie cutter gays, just in different hats and scarfs lol. Sadly this is shot in Toronto, and I recognize a few of those gays.

most stereotypical show I have ever seen in my life.

I want to go in and punch every gay guy on that show for signing to be on that show to begin with. (Figure of speech - not actually going to punch them).

    a) Most of them have lisps.
    b) Most of them flick their wrist when they talk.

Not one man on there who acts masculine to represent us masculine gay men.

I saw it 2x--the first time I was aghast at how awful it was; I gave it one more try, and my opinion of it got even worse. The gay guys were vacuous, catty, and annoying. Do gay guys actually talk like that, and do we have to end every declaratory statement or comment with a question mark? I think I just threw up a little in my mouth just now.

Yes, some do. It's campy behaviour. Interestingly, many who have made it an ingrained habit won't go out with each because of it.

To be fair, there are many guys who've been expressing themselves that way since their early teens, so it's not something they can help, and as natural them them as their grin.
I do blame the show and others for promulgating this one character-type of how gay men conduct themselves.

They are trained Actors. I'm sure the producers are feeding them lines and telling them to "camp it up" for the cameras!! icon_redface.gif

Those guys are also so gross looking which makes their behavior worse.

Judging from the clips on YouTube, I'm not missing out on much. Just one more reason why I cancelled my cable subscription completely to watch quality shows like Roseanne and 30 Rock. When will full seasons of Seinfeld be available for instant streaming?!

.. perhaps if the host were David Gregory and not Tim Russert (I don't think Aliya-Jasmine Sovani digs deep enough), as it currently is. As for the panelists, the 1G5G panelists are more homogenous in their views than MTP panelists. If there were more "we" (societal / community) questions than "me" (personal) questions, it might make for a more relevant show. My favorite part of the show is the opening music and the animated transition scenes between questions. Go Bills.

Wow. seems like a lot of insecurity here.

Not a huge fan of the show, but don't think it's half bad.

What is disgusting and embarrassing are some of the remarks about the more flamboyant members of the gay community. Sounds like a lot of stereotypical straight male gay bashing. Although I'm sure some of you here would be ok with being given that stereotype. Some of you guys are sad and are what's wrong with the divide in the gay community right now.

Mohammed you really want to punch them for being on the show? I know you're young, but don't be the stereotypical juvenile imbecile.

It is a figure of speech.
I am expressing my distaste towards that show and to the people on that show.

How am I stereotyping? What I am doing is actually the opposite. I am calling out that the show is stereotyping gay men as being feminine.

That is why I hate the show - because it stereotypes gay men.
