Norm and I will be moving in about 5 years. We are thinking of moving to Florida. (Ft Lauderdale or St Petersburg) It doesn't have to be Florida. I am curious as to where you guys think is a good area to retire?

I've lived in both. Ft. Lauderdale pwns St. Pete, both in gay crowd and things to do. The beaches are prettier, too.

FL is presently pretty fucked up and retarded about equal rights, which is worth throwing in the equation (hospital care etc). Not a deal breaker though

That is true. For a state that has such a gay friendly society, the govt still hates us. But then again, I do have the unfair advantage for helping sway the decisions of politicians. I'll keep my mouth shut about "how" though...it's my little secret. icon_wink.gif

I don´t care about the how, but sway away. They need a lot of swaying.

back2nyc saidMove to Barcelona, or Sitges / Girona or somewhere else in Spain. The cost of living is much cheaper than stupid Florida, less taxes, more benefits, and best of all there is CULTURE.

Culture and equal rights.... So some sanctimonious bitch in the hospital can´t tell you that you may not see your partner as you are not his next of kin.

Isn't it San Francisco? I've never been to SF but people have told me that they're very open-minded and you can kiss in public and stuff and noone bats an eyelid, or so I've been told, I could be wrong

Old gay men go to Palm Springs. Sometimes when my partner and I are visiting we see so many old gay men its like it is a mega size retirement trailer park for gays with Arenas Rd as the community room. Plus in a few more years, having a pharmacy on nearly every street corner might be important to you.

Hey back2nyc, if Europe is so great, why don't you just pack up and move your ass back across the Atlantic? Or are the taxes in most European countries too high for you.

i live very close to fort lauderdale and it's definitely a gay friendly city...

    all of south florida is.

don't go to saint pete, it's kinda boring there, plus the beaches are nicer in lauderdale, not to mention it stays warmer down here too icon_smile.gif
