I was watching this video about an ex-porn star who gives her testimony about her life in the porn industry. She says, "There is no woman who enjoys the porn industry" and that no porn star loves it. She mentions that every woman she has met has had a tough upbringing full of neglect. She also compares the hardships of vietnam vets to the life of a porn star.

So do you guys think that the gay porn industry is more glamorous? Do you think gay stars enjoy making the vids or do you think they feel the same way as this woman did? Of course we don't see alot of the behind the scenes. Just wanted to get your thoughts....

Depending on the producers, I think some gay porn stars are having a blast.

Seeing the hot ass some of them are getting makes me feel sorry for myself.

Some of the former gay porn stars came out and said they started in porn because of lower self esteem/body image issues.
I know a few guys though that have done porn, and they talk about it like it's fun. It probably depends on each individual, and what studio they are with.

Gay men are probably more prone to due it out of a certain attraction and intrigue... it turns them on.

I suspect many women get into it because the feel they have no other way to make money.

Yes, I feel sorry and sad sometimes for them. So lately for the most part I really can't enjoy porn for the most part.

Yes, I do, because I watched a video about the truth of porn and it's really shocking, besides, any producer can sexually harass you and if you complain, do you think they're gonna take you seriously if you're a porn star? No.
And if you're not a pornstar anymore, it doesn't matter cuz it's gonna haunt you wherever you go and you would be always seen as a porn star.

Hell no I don't feel sorry for porn stars. Nobody forces them to do porn. They can always get a job flipping burgers if they wanted. The ones who get into it because they have poor body image/personal issues need to quit playing the role of the poor defenseless victim and start being accountable for their own actions. Personally, I think doing porn would be fun. Sure beats dealing with the general public.

I think gay guys who are seriously in the industry probably have some issues going on. If your entire livelihood is based on making money in the sex industry, you've probably got some issues going on in the head.

If you're a guy who does a couple scenes for some cash, then yeah, its probably less of a big deal....

Just look up Erik Rhodes' blog if you want to see a gay pornstar train wreck

    Erikrhodes.blogspot.com

Do I feel sorry for them? Yeah, because they likely made a decision that was based on a momentary idea that doing porn would be fun, would make them a lot of money, and that maybe in the future they could do something else.... but 'for now' they can make ends meet by doing porn. What the woman said about porn stars often having messed up families is pretty true, from my experience.

I've worked in therapy with people who were prostitutes - they have had to do things that haunt them for life, and that they still struggle with shame for having done. It's damn sad to see people like that. The men and women who are out there escorting are the ones who I feel the most sorry for. They have a lot of pain inside.

You said GAY porn stars. This is a woman. My sympathy level is already strained.

I also have little interest in what happens to a male porn star. They make their choice, their fate is not my concern. You live in sleaze, you can die in sleaze. Boo-hoo. Make a better choice up-front, don't come whining to us afterwards.

And if they're fortunate enough to be among the few who make a fortune, do you think they're going to share it with any of us? So don't bother to share your misfortunes, either. Fair enough?

MuchMoreThanMuscle saidI did not connect with Shelly or Charlotte (or whatever her name is). She wants sympathy from people because she felt the need to make $400 a night?

The way she told her story with perfectly expressed anger and tears looked like nothing more than histrionics.

And how old is she? Is she in her 40's now? Talking in public about how she hated her father or did not get the love from her father or mother just looks childish.

And how dare she compare herself to drafted Vietnam veterans who had no choice other than to serve their country. Instead of pleasing her sugar daddies where she did not even do her own laundry or home chores and just did cocaine and other drugs. She admitted to going on welfare to have her child. But she went back to the porn industry because of the money.

And why did she feel the need to mention that her daughter was half Asian? "Cuz my trick was Asian." What is she implying with that comment? That on a personal level she would not sleep with an Asian or have a child with an Asian man? To me that had racist undertones.

    I am not buying it.

There are six parts to this testimonial she gave. If you take time to listen to the entire six parts, you will see that overall she is not speaking out of anger. The part I uploaded is the section where she speaks about the porn industry.

i feel sorry for the females caught in the slave market : imported illegally and forced to submit to often horrible sex.
That is a tragedy and a shame to our society.

But the porn industry ? heck no. I still watch porn so if i'm going to be consequential with myself i need to say i don't care.
    so, i don't care.

She obviously hasn't met the girl I was hanging out with tonight...currently 45 and been doing adult fetish work since she was legal. She still loves it like the day she started (and has some mega-interesting stories of very unusual fetishes).

As for gay porn, I've only met one gay porn star who didn't like it...but I've only known less than 10, so it may not be an accurate statistic.

as someone who has done gay adult video work, i can tell you that what matters most is the culture on set and how you allow it to affect your mood/attitude. when the director/staff are friendly and well organized, the rest of it is a piece of cake. working for disreputable houses without a loyal agent is a great way to end up in a tawdry video that reinforces the stereotype that everyone in adult entertainment is a depressed crackhead.

there really isn't much balance in the conversation on this thread, and that's a tad irritating, given the fact that i (and some of my porn model friends on here) present ourselves as better mannered than many of the rest of the people who participate on these forums. i feel more sorry for unhappy people in "good" jobs than i do for my colleagues in adult entertainment. most of the adult entertainers i know are far better adjusted than most of the people who presume to judge them.

    Quoted for Truth....

I was waiting for your post, DJ. I have to compliment you (as I have on your site) for giving perspective. It has helped me to NOT throw all sex industry workers into the same lot.

I know nothing about this, but its a profession, and like any profession, you have people who go into because they enjoy it and those that get pushed into it because of whatever reason, grit their teeth and bear it. So in general, i don't feel sorry for them. Its a job, they do it, then get paid and go home to their lives...just like any other person out there.

Which is what the Christian Right wants to do: sinful, mentally diseased, degenerate, bad. When actually you probably cause more harm to the world working for the oil industry....

I have to concur. Some (if not most) gay porn stars are smarter than you might think - at least that is what I've concluded. Some don't fit into the "dumb porn star" stereotype. Articulate and well-rounded are some of the adjectives I've used to describe some porn actors I've taken the time to research beyond watching their "work"

I remember reading the biography on the Life & Death of Joey Stefano. His was a troubled life and he used porn to pump his self esteem. He was swallowed whole by the industry and end the end, he died of an overdose. But I don't really think his is the prevelant story of guys in industry.
