I need a vacation and a relief from the Arizona summer heat, so just signed up to go on the ATLANTIS cruise to the Mediterranean in August from Venice to Athens, stopping in Croatia, Istanbul, Corfu, Mykonos, Santorini, and ending in Athens.

    http://www.atlantisevents.com/cruises_2010_venice.aspx

Sounds amazing! I've been on 3 previous ATLANTIS cruises, though never to Europe, and had a blast on all.

Any other RJ members going on this one?

Sounds like a lovely route / amazing destinations.

But for some reason I feel like a gay cruise would either be amazing or awful, depending on certain things.... Perhaps my perception of it is off, but I am picturing tragic mini circuit parties ... etc...? lol. Wrong? Or perhaps there's something for everyone...?

The answer is definitely "something for everyone." It's crazy how much fun it is. It doesn't seem to matter how wild or mild you are. Everyone has a great time.

I was wondering... Are these "gay" cruises just like a regular cruise with gay-themed activities and friendliness, or some floating boat of endless debauchery or a day-in-day-out, gay pride event trapped on a boat? ... or somewhere in the middle?

Does anyone have personal experiences and observations they'd like to share?

These cruises really do have something for everyone. You can have your endless debauchery if you want or you can just chill out with your lover just like on a straight cruise. Some cruises attract a wilder crowd or a more sedate crowd but they all offer something for everyone.

Personally, I want to get away from the kids and have some adult fun with my husband. We don't do drugs or have anonymous sex but I'm sure many people do. The ships are so big that you have to actively seek out things to do. So, if your not into drugs or anonymous sex you won't ever see it.

The reason these cruises are so popular is because they truly are a blast for everyone!

I went on my first Atlantis cruise back in March, and had the time of my life. Definitely go with friends (I went with 3 others). The parties and shows and excursions are a lot of fun when with your friends.

You can meet some pretty cool people on one, and yes there's a hook-up element (but that can be avoided) like anywhere else.

I'm booked on the Allure for February which is their 20th anniversary cruise and can't wait!!

I'd say they are more like "something for everyone". Cruises are so much fun, but they are what you make them. The three I have been on were some of the most enjoyable vacations ever. I guess they are pretty much like a straight cruise, accept the parties are better, there are no Grammas from Peoria, and the guys have better bodies icon_lol.gif

My bf and I went on the their Mediterranean cruise last year (Italy, Egypt, Greece) and had an amazing time. I was apprehensive beforehand as well, wondering about the "floating bathhouse" atmosphere that might be, but as others have said there really is something for everyone. It was very well organized, and can be as wild or mild as you want it to be.

It was actually odd and refreshing at the same time to be in an environment where almost everyone is gay. You could totally be at ease, being yourself and people were really friendly and just looking to have a good time.

It's a different kind of vacation for sure, and one I'd definitely recommend.

    I've been on that cruise
    and its a Fantastic Cruise

If you can go? ...... Go!
If you're afraid it's going to be a floating bath house ... it's not
    There's plenty of opportunities
but it's def not in your face
    The destinations are wonderful
so if you're on the fence about it go book it
    You won't regret it

I've never been in one ... but my first is coming up soon (Athens to Barcelona on the 24th). It's a post-graduation celebration thing and I'm really excited. I don't really know what to expect, so I'm going with an open mind, fully intending to let loose and have fun.

Judging from people's past experiences however, I shouldn't have any difficulty enjoying myself.

I did one this summer (straight cruise to Alaska ) and pretty convinced they're not for me. Its all too organized and coordinated and the scale and insularity of it all isnt for me. But Im probably in the minority.
    Have fun though icon_smile.gif

A straight cruise compared to a gay cruise is like comparing the playground at the local elementary school to Disneyland.
