First of all when a lot of ppl think of the stereotypical "jock" they think of uber straight athletic cocky jerks (mainly stricon_cool.gif. This has become the epitome of gay porn and gay desire and it is warped. I see so many gay dudes work their ass off in the gym to get the perfect body, and some achieve it. They then only seek similar types of guys (I have seen this more times than anything else) and see anything but that as "weak". But essentially you're saying that your security obviously comes only from your body. You're saying if you didn't have your athletic buff body you'd be weak like everyone else too. That is what worries me. Any guy who feels that way is gay or on his way to becoming gay if all that has to happen is for a bigger, stronger, buffer guy has to come along to make u feel "less than". If so, in ur mind you're weak already. You have no idea how many academic studies have been done on gay men's obsession with this.

Try having "muscle-worship" as a fetish and you'll think differently.
For me, I could care less about masc or fem as long as the dude has good muscle definition and loves to flex'em.

Plus, thanks to the media and mainstream events, the word "gay" has become associated with the word "feminine." That is terribly incorrect. Being gay has nothing to do with a person's demeanor.

I don't give a shit about athletic bodies. It's funny how people think that improving their body shape, they are also improving themselves. Having a high self esteem based on your body is so hilarious icon_smile.gif

A flaming hot body may get you more men in your bed but you need more than that if you want to improve yourself. I mean, you need a brain too. A good personality wont hurt too. icon_smile.gif I dont exercise nor work-out but Im not ashamed of my body. Im just sick and tired of seeing muscular guys everywhere I go, lol. Why does everyone have to have the same muscular look .....

I'm sure there are many guys that exactly fit your characterization, but there are many examples where it is not correct. Just because someone works to have an outstanding body and is attracted to other guys with outstanding bodies does not, in itself, make them shallow or insecure. I think many guys consider the whole person, but consider the physical part important or even essential for a potential LTR. As long as they don't disrespect someone without the perfect body, I don't think they can be called insecure.

It's body dysmorphic disorder. We're shown images (TV, magazines, porn especially) of these incredibly buff guys and that sets the expectation that we have to look like that. Any other body type is "unacceptable." It's the same thing with our obsession with youth - I'm almost 40 and have definitely hit my "gay expiration date."

I don't think there's any way to change it.

Falaskan, I don't understand. Aren't you contradicting yourself with this thread?

    http://www.realjock.com/gayforums/1016888/

Though I admit both threads are kind of rambling so maybe I'm not getting your two points. But they seem contradictory.

In any case, I sense some deep confusion and bitterness in your tone. Work it out.

All aesthetics aside, the a physically fit body can be an indication of personal traits:
-Discipline to workout and eat properly
-Commitment to follow through with a fitness plan
-Ability to take care of oneself

Sure, a fit body isn't the only indicator of these traits, but it's the easiest to spot and the nicest to look at. icon_cool.gif

I don't care about having a buff body. There are no benefits to me to having a buff body, so it's useless. The ONLY thing I would care about is "looks", but I don't feel that shallow. I love sports, but I'd rather be thin/skinny with high stamina than go crazy over something that's pointless. Strength is nice, but I don't see myself needing it.

Demonizing fit and well-built guys is just a kind of self-affirmation for guys who are too lazy to work out, and have let themselves go.
Not working out, not having pride in one's appearance, and not being interested in one's health and longevity, does not give you some kind of moral superiority.
    That's BS.
Being fat flabby or skinny does not make you a better person, no matter how you may try to spin it.
