Is Men in Motion the future of ballet?
Dancers and choreographers are transforming ballet to make it relevant to modern audiences – now Men in Motion fuses classical and contemporary
"Men in Motion is a project devised by Ivan Putrov, the Ukrainian whirlwind, born to ballet dancing parents and seemingly destined to evolve and live on stage. He was muse to Pet Shop Boys, who wrote The Most Incredible Thing for him (Sadler’s Wells, 2011) but Mario Testino, Nick Night and Sam Taylor-Wood have all been inspired to work with him.
Essentially, Men in Motion is a compilation of ground-breaking dance works from the last century – a Now That’s What I Call Ballet, if you like. It’s possible such an approach may upset the purists, but bite size excerpts and a broad palette is one way to accommodate an audience that’s increasingly skittish due to social media’s drain on our concentration."http://www.gaystarnews.com/article/men-motion-future-ballet070214
