Ironic Preppies in Boat Shoes at the Gym?

So is this just a weird David Barton thing in New York, or is it now cool everywhere to wear khaki shorts or even pants, polo shirts, and boat shoes to lift weights in? I mean this seems ridiculous even by ironic prepster standards? Don't get me wrong, that's my look on the streets 90% of the time but not at the gym where I still favor synthetic materials and actual cross-training tennis shoes (or sneakers as they'd say here in the northeast I guess).

I've seen everything at New York Sports Club, including the look you've mentioned. There's also one guy who rides his roller blades in and out of the gym - which means he has to climb two flights of stairs in roller blades to get into and out of the gym!

The worst thing for me is when I see people walking around the gym barefoot.
