They surf, they kite board, they run the loop showing off their hot sculptured bodies. Even though they are very friendly and approachable, it can be quite frustrating since they are almost all too young and too straight. It is easy at my age to feel a bit out of place. Today, though a guy said something that has had me laughing. He was quite muscular, had a thick New York area accent, was carrying a Pizza on to the beach as I was leaving and was grinning ear to ear when he approached me. He told me that when I was walking on the beach with my shirt open, his son asked him, "Daddy, you think you'll look like him when you're his age?" He then says, "I told him I sure hope so". I love that kid and his Daddy too!

    Friendormate,
You look amazing and what a wonderful compliment you got from that stud! Well earned!

There are lots of hunky guys in my area but they're shy and generally you don't see them jogging with their shirt off. Sometimes, though, you get lucky.

Sdgman you'd fit right in if you moved here!

Thanks for the compliments guys, though I hope I didn't come across as fishing. I just thought that was a hell of a cute statement coming from his kid and it was awfully nice of the guy to share it with me.

Right after this incident I walked into a bar that was replaying a world cup match. I got talking to a tall well built waiter there about the match and went on to discuss the world cup Rugby match I went to once and he told me about a big rugby tournament that is playing locally. As I'm talking to him I couldn't help to notice how what a great cliff chin and strikingly handsome features he has. Then today I tried to paddle to a secret surf beach on an uninhabited island. I couldn't find it but stopped on an island to ask how far away the ocean was. Now this was more like a family beach on the inter-coastal with kids and middle aged sun bakers. But the guy who answers me is such a stud I had a hard time keeping my eyes off his hot bod. Turns out he is a fellow whitewater paddler so we start talking about rivers and creaks. I let him paddle my waveski and gave him my number so we could surfyak together sometime. Almost everyday here is like that. The off season is even better because the tourist are not nearly as hot as the locals. My waveski is a great conversation piece with the surfers. It is a cross between a surfboard and a kayak. Too unstable and difficult to paddle to be a kayak but it slices and glides in the waves.

The downside of living here is that the gay life is small and incestuous. When I lived in South Florida there were plenty of hot gay/bi/bicurious/trianything. It was so easy to get laid and yet so difficult to make friends. A long-term relationship was sleeping more than once with a guy. You're never good looking enough and it seems you're either too old or too young. It seems most of the guys there are on a perpetual search for perfection.

I guess it is a trade off between living in a place where getting laid is nearly impossible but where it is so easy to befriend so many handsome wholesome folks versus living in a place where it is easy to get laid but very hard to make friends and even more difficult to get anyone to settle down. I wonder if any of you have noticed this dichotomy.

I totally agree with you. For the past 20+ years, I live in different countries in different continents. Yes, in big cities, getting laid is easy but hard to maintain a relationship as 'everyone' is looking for the ideal one. In smaller towns, people are nice and you can develop good friendships but 'everyone' is straight, married or taken ...
