Did changing your body change your personality?

Posing this to the guys who've made major changes in their physiques. How did improving here affect the rest of your life? I feel like feeling bad about my body for so long has been a major life hangup that affects everything else and that fixing this will be very good rebalancing. Any stories you can offer to keep me encouraged for a radical change would be great.

The most relaxed (about their bodies) people I know have completely average, unremarkable bodies. Those who have great bodies have achieved theirs due to some quirk or condition that goads them to do so. A little narcissism perhaps, or sexual fetishism.

Your attitude about yourself may likely change when you see the person in the mirror looking different or better. This will not make you a better person, or a more successful person. But it may sexually excite you or draw sexual excitement your way. If that's a condition of your happiness, get on that.

Personality change? No - and that's a good thing. The rest of my life? Well, I have a little less free time but daily activities are easier. If you're feeling so bad about your body now it's entirely possible that no amount of improvement will make you happy; then again, your entire life and attitude might take a complete 180. No one can tell you which it will be; if you want to determine which it is before you undertake some type of physical transformation some serious introspection is in order.

    Define "successful."
People change their bodies all the time to be more successful. Taylor Lautner gained 20 lbs of solid muscle to keep his role in Twilight, women get boob jobs all the time to advance their career...

    Yes.

When I was chubby I'd wear long sleeve dress shirts and tailored dress pants, 24/7, everywhere (they hid my body as opposed to wearing a t-shirt and jeans). And I was 18-19, y'all. Other people perceived me super dressed up and uptight, or at least really conservative and shy. And I acted the part. It was a feedback cycle.

Now I'm confident in my skin, wear more regular casual clothes, and project a more more accessible image. Ish. I'm definitely less uptight and more open to engaging with people. Ish.

I looked at the floor and constantly answered the question of "Are you going to a job interview after this?"

I got really chubby between the start high school and started going down since 11th grade years ago. Getting close to nice abs now icon_biggrin.gif

You might become more confident and comfortable with yourself and you might find yourself being more outgoing and excited about life than before. You tend to let the fundamental aspects that make you who you are shine more. Careful not to become a cocky bitch icon_razz.gif

    But, this is just me.

Nope. I'm as bitter and abrasive as ever. icon_lol.gif

I'm a little more outgoing, now. Though, that still leaves me as painfully shy.

    Yes, very much so.

When I was fat, I would constantly refer to myself as the "stereotypical old fat creepy photographer."

Now that I'm hot, I refer to myself with a wink and a flex as I walk by any mirrored surface. Not that I've gotten cocky or anything like that. icon_wink.gif

Funny that you should mention this topic. I actually have lost about 40lbs since I left for deployment in February. I didn't just do it to look better but to have be a healthier person. I changed my diet, my activities, my spirituality, and just my way of thinking about how I approach life. I have been doing it for long enough that I feel like a different person completely then when I left. I am actually kind of scared for my partner to see me again because I barely recognize the person in the mirror and I don't know what he will think. So, yes, choosing to be healthier has completely changed me.

I think that many people feel at war with their own bodies. Mine is now my best friend. It does what I want, and it looks the way I want it to look.

I feel more capable. And feeling more capable makes me feel more confident. And feeling more confident makes me feel more at ease.

When you get the big things right, little things don't bother you as much.

Man, I could not have said it better myself. I went from about 35 pounds overweight maybe eight years ago to about 20 pounds underweight about four years ago, and today am weighing in at a pretty lean 165-170. The physical improvements just clear the road for the changes that really make you feel good - the increase in energy, the positive vibes you give off to those around you (they notice it, trust me), the confidence, the clarity of mind, the list goes on!

Awesome post. Right now I'm going through a body change because I don't have enough money to eat well and I've lost about 10 lbs. Right now I'm at 193 and 190 was, at one time, what I thought would be my perfect weight. I think I might go down to 185 so I can see my abs.

Although I thought I was in decent shape before, I'm a lot more.....curvy. I would have to say I'm getting more attention in real life situations.

Has it changed me? Yes. I feel more confident and I don't feel like a tubby when I eat a large meal..... I just feel like I've enjoyed a good meal with no guilt.
