    Hey guys.
I recently moved to a new country (last week). I'm living with my cousin and looking for work so I can stay here.
My cousin's place is in an outlying suburb of Melbourne and there really isnt a gym in town. There's a really small one in the next town, and a better one a bit further away. Trouble is I have no car of my own here.
I'm a bit "gym obsessed". My day isn't really complete unless I've had my workout. I usually workout 6 days a week in the gym doing either weights mostly and cardio 2 to 3 times a week. I'm no muscle god, but I've made a lot of good progress in the last couple years and really want to keep it up.

I've been doing the "Insanity" workout DVDs by BeachBody and they are ok, but I wondered if anyone had any really great suggestions or routines that are intense and I could do without gym equipment. Thoughts?

Body weight training is the best!

Maybe buy yourself a Kettle Bell and work it. They are great, too!

saw an article by chad waterburry how to get big in 30 days
his solution was 100 pushups 50 chinups everyday for 30 days. doesn't matter how many set or reps just get to the total every day take 5 days after 30. i even lost a few inches of the waist and people were "asking me what are you doing to workout".

i usually did 50 pushups in morn and 25 chinups then the rest at night. i'm going to try to do them all one session for time ( try to beat the time each week)

oh and i did sprints for 15 min to on the treadmill at 9 angle. no gym do the hindu squat for 15 min

Are you not seeing results with "insanity"???? ...Was thinking about buying but was not really impressed with the transformation vids on youtube by real people.

Insanity is difficult, and it definitely makes my legs sore. I don't feel like it's doing a whole lot for upper body. Only been on it for a week, so no noticeable results yet.
Plus I bought it cheap off a friend and some of the discs seem to be scrambled so its possible he pirated it.... not good

Someone suggested I bike to the gym. I could but that'd probably be all the workout I needed! LOL anyway, gym membership month to month is quite $$$.

thanks for suggestions guys, especially Suthrn Stud I'll try my 100 pushups, don't know where I'd do chinups though.....

I quit going to the gym when I left my last job and I'm in better shape now then I was then. YOU DON"T NEED A GYM TO STAY IN SHAPE. Let the outdoors be your gym. Particularly in a place like Melbourne where the weather is so nice. Yes I know it is winter there but that is even better as you won't get too hot. I think you should join a crew team. When I was in Melbourne I saw all these people doing that and thought that could be fun. How about kayaking. Yes get a bike. Join a club that revolves around a sport. It doesn't have to be a gay one. I have made so many friends from my outdoor activities and have so many athletic hobbies now that I don't have time for a gym. The only thing I miss about a gym is showering with a sexy hunk. I guess I'll have to find one who wants to use my shower while I'm in it.

A lot of times public beaches and parks have basic exercise facilities where you can do a lot of exercises and even get a little creative to work the whole body.

To find gyms in Melbourne, Australia:

First, go to a search engine, such as:

    www.google.com

Type the following words (known as "search terms") into the text box (where the blinking cursor is):

    weights gym melbourne australia

The words must be separated by at least one space. Commas are not necessary. Other possible search terms would also find gyms in Melbourne, the important thing is that the search terms convey the meaning of what you are looking for.

The search engine finds web pages which (if all goes well) include the search terms, you can click on any of the links which are returned. Some of links returned, and usually the first links, may be spam; look at the link titles and choose one that sounds like a gym in Melbourne, (often this link is not the first choice given.)

    Hope this helps.

^ that. TRX bands are pretty awesome for a good workout/

Also remember to vary your tempo! Even a chin up is extremely difficult when performed 30 sec eccentric (down) and 30 sec concentric (up)!

1 Pushups - your new bench press
2 Attach 2 old tires to a metal rod - your loaded barbell
3 Hang from a stop light - your pullup station
4 Stand between the toilet and the sink, hold them - your dips station

Thanks for the posts everybody. Even the sarcastic and condescending ones (thankfully only 1 of those).

Just to follow up, I have moved a bit further in towards civilization and found a decent gym. A lot of your suggestions helped me keep myself sane in the interim. Still trying to get myself set up in a new country but at least the gym thing is basically sorted.

    Thnx
