he and another "friend" were in the process of getting stoned on crack cocaine.

after a few seconds of Shocked Silence; i turned heels and wordlessly walked out.

haven't answered either one's voice mails, texts or emails.

have NO intention of doing so.

No you are not. I would have done the same thing. If anything if you respond you can say I just don't want to be around that stuff. And I wouldn't want to hang around someone that did either.

you put 'friend's' in quotes, so does that mean the person really wasn't much of a friend in the first place, or NOW you don't consider him much of a friend because of his drug-consuming tendencies?

either way, just send a text and say 'thanks for the invite but i really don't want celebrate the holiday where that type of thing is taking place'... simple as that, really

Yeah I'm not down with drug users. So I would have done the same thing. I might have even sent a strongly worded text message saying that they could contact me after they go seek treatment for their drug issues.

    Oh tweakers.... sad, sad, sad.

And on a lighter note... even Ms. Whitney Houston knows....

The hell with whether they were friends or acquaintances! having druggies as friends even if they admit to only do it on occasion is trouble. You don't want a looser like that in your life, it is a big waste of time. You did the right thing!

No, in fact, you might actually be doing them a favor. Once they see that their friends do NOT find it socially acceptable, maybe they'll realize how stupid and dangerous that shit is!!
Do NOT condone it.. and let your friends know that you cannot remain friends with someone who uses drugs. Be blunt, be honest...and walk away quickly!!

You know I'm such a dumbass about drugs, I don't know I'd even know it was crack cocaine, but I'd know it was something like that and I would have done the same thing.... wow.

    Kudos....

I don't know what kind of friend they were to you but what kind of friend are we if we're turning our back on people that travel down dark paths like that. You could be that beacon of light for that friend. Hell, you could've at least told him that junk will make his teeth fall out before you walked off. lol

Tell your friend about Narcotics Anonymous. Get him to a meeting if you can.

No, you're acting sensibly. Your mere presence where drugs are being used could get you arrested. Keeping company with crackheads could get you robbed or killed, if not by them, then by their other contacts. (As you should know all too well from living in New Orleans).

Exactly, I lost count of how many tricks I have turned down due to this, but they made their choice and I made mine.

it's all about a comfort level. If you don't feel comfortable being around that stuff, that's your business. No need to feel bad about your actions. You saw a situation you wanted no part of, and you acted accordingly. You did the right thing.

No you are not. Good move.

Before I left I would have told them how fucking stupid they were. You still may do that if they contact you again.

Why is "friend's" in quotations? Was he just a casual acquaintance? Or a real friend that you've known for a while? If it's the former, then no big deal. You don't need to justify walking out. If it's the latter, then I think you should call him back, and tell him you don't want to be around him and that type of scene. Just let him know up front. Don't try to dodge the situation.

If you and those other two loosers were the sum total of expected guests, I would have left too. I hate when people assume its ok to do drugs around people who don't. And I can never trust anyone who does crack/cocaine.

If there were supposed to be other people coming, I would have left and returned later when the party was happening if you thought it was worth it. But I would keep a distance from the other three clowns.

Yeh, you've only got two choices: join in or stay away.

You're not acting immaturely, at all.

But, I would suggest that you send an email explaining your feelings, not in an angry way, but just letting them know that drugs are not your idea of a good time, nor is being around people who are doing them.

Not sure where the anger is coming from? I understand not wanting to be at a crack party but it's not like it's a personal offense against you. Refusing to speak to them seems kinda bitchy and judgmental. To each their own.
