Hey guys. I love cardio. I could do it hour after hour, but when it comes to weight training I have a hell of a time pushing myself through the burn that comes with it. After my second or third set I can't bring myself to do that next exercise knowing that it's going to burn just as bad.

So my question is, does the burn become more bearable or am I just being a baby? Can anyone provide any advice they use to push themselves?

I always hear guys saying they love the burn. How can you love it? I want to love it too! ;)

You just become used to the burn [the release of lactic acid] as you become used to lifting. I particularly love it--I originally (obviously) hated it--as it doesn't really have a direct effect on my lifting; its the DOMS that kills me.

[This is when motivation comes in] When I start to feel the burn, I just yell at myself (in my head) to stop being a pussy and keep going! I guess its the adrenaline that pushes me because after that, I do not feel the burn anymore.

Try utilizing a personal trainer; a good one can really help you and teach you a lot.

Good Luck with your lifting!!! icon_biggrin.gif

You are welcome. Prior to joining the gym, I had NO previous experience being active at all (besides gym classes) so i knew that I needed help. Before I touched any equipment in that place, i needed to make sure I knew what i was doing; the trainer was very helpful!

Trainers are great, I had one who was a total bitch and I loved her for it! When I'd start to feel the burn, she'd up the speed on the treadmill, or the intensity on the elliptical. You later realize that they were doing it for a reason, not just to make you feel pain!

trainer not necessary however. to answer ur questin burn goes away.

I would def do a warm down ..ie 20 min after working out do treadmill or favorite cardio machine

also if u stretch ..and real stretching .that decreases teh muscle soreness

also i would eat a few bananna's due to potasim after work out and also i would look at ur diet and add more protein .
