Nope. Never did (even when everybody was doing it in HS). Might try it though, but only out of curiosity. I've tried to stay away from vice all my (erm.. short as of now) life, but alas! Smoking caught me. I don't need another. icon_wink.gif

I don't have a problem with people who use it occasionally though, as long as it's not habitual.

I don't like smoking weed, I get too spaced out and lethargic and I don't like the dry mouth feeling. Rarely I'll have a small toke if I'm drunk. I understand how it can be used medicinally as it impairs your pain threshold though it's not for me. A few friends smoke quite regularly though I couldn't do it 'cos I can't concentrate so well while I'm high.

Legalization has to be considered differently in each country so in regards with Australia, I'm happy with our laws as it is.

Former pot head here...won't lie, still sneak a puff on the odd occasion. No harm.

Make it illegal until they create weed that does not make you want to eat your entire pantry.

Seriously, I think there are so many benefits for medical use that it would be retarded to keep it illegal. I saw they might have medical MJ vending machines.

recreational... why not. How many stoners get in fights, car accidents, etc. Pretty harmless stuff. Horrible for your lungs though.

For active guys trying to gain muscle and lose fat, cannabis is a losing equation as it dramatically drops testosterone and increases cortisol (catabolic stress hormone that breaks down muscle and increase fat storage).

I am not gonna tell you I've never done it, but once I found out about the hormone impact I've quit it completely; not because of any moral arguement for or against it, its just simply not conducive to my health and fitness goals.

Just a little food for thought.

C'mon man, that's like asking "how can you know if you don't like to have sex with a crocodile if you've never tried". I don't hate drugs per se, but I've seen many friends and charges go down the ever deepening tunnel towards the hospital, cementery or jail because of drugs. MJ is usually the bridge between drinking alcohol and smoking "ciggies" and the more potent illegal drugs.

I don't even drink cofee, for health's sake. Not gonna say I'm a saint, I had a couple of surreal x-periences with alcohol when I was about 20 (like when I first came out to anyone) but hey, I don't think it's the way to go.

Interesting take on the hormonal front. I will say I gained tons of weight when i was a heavy smoker. And it was not just from later night fridge raids.

Ok I'm sorry but that whole Marijuana is a gate way drug myth has got to go. It's not. If you smoke enough MJ it can become addictive i suppose but you would need to do it like 3 times a day or something. I started smoking marijuana when i was 14 at some stranger's 21st b-day party, I enjoyed it and didn't do it again until I was about 17. I started smoking cigs arround 17 also but i am quiting on my b-day. There is no gate way drug.OK?

Hey guys...I think the myth about pot being a gateway drug has some merit, but certainly not because it is actually true in a scientific sense. Think about where one might obtain pot...a dealer. Realize next, that many dealers (although not all) can deal you many different items in addition to pot. Finally, you must know that any savvy dealer will always be telling his or her clients (sometimes 14 year old kids) about other products and services available. Therefore, I believe this statement is true from a marketing and social standpoint, and an item of concern for parents indeed.

But when steeped in middle class christian dogma and fear-based motivation, it seems awfully weak, especially when applied to adults. Mention pot, and the innocent start acting like it is 1950, and they are at casting call for Extra work in Reefer Madness. These types are always somewhat charming, until someone puts a pulpit in front of them.

Alcohol, by its nature, is poisonous, but we like the effect it has on us, and occasionally like to "tie one on" because it feels good to relax and indulge in pleasure. As gay men, the world of pleasure is often times our oyster, and it just comes down to moderation and good decision making.

If you smoked pot one night instead of drinking, you'd probably notice that your thinking would be more focussed, you would smile until your face hurt, and you'd notice the details in music and art more acutely. At its best, pot will assist you in a quest for gentle happiness and heightened sensual awareness. Alcohol consumption causes side effects like puking, headache, shakes, night sweats. Pot might make you a little sleepy and crave snacks. It is also classified as a depressant, so its usage might be ruinous to someone with depression or other mental illness.

Cannabis makes me paranoid, it's been years since I've done it. And I no longer smoke and I think it would make me very sick if I did it now.

I think it makes people lazy and destroys their motivation to do things even get out of bed.

Apparently it does help people with certain medical conditions.

I actually have a funny story about the time I got high for the first time. Makes me very very very horny, but won't go into any detail. I've got no use for it currently in my life but point no fingers towards anyone who uses it. Wait, I guess maybe I do to a certain degree if you're a total pot head. Do I think it should be banned? No. For medicinal purposes I think it's a great resource. Do I think it should be legalized? No. Too many different forms of it. Can't properly gage how powerful one batch may be over the other.

i see the benefits of it, and i see the arguments against it. and i don't believe it's a "don't knock it til you try it" kind of deal. i'm anti drug to a certain extent. the fact that MJ can just grow in certain climates, and theere's no real extraction method of it, sorta takes away the whole drug image in my books. cocaine on the other hand has quite a process, and then even after that you're lucky if there isn't fiber glass or crushed up light bulbs in it to add weight and create small lacerations to allow the drug in faster. it's kinda disturbing.

now. my use of weed. if me and my buddies are hanging out, and decide to just chill out and watch a movie, and we want a lil buzz or something, we COULD each drinks 4-5 beers, or we could roll a joint. and seriously, i've never done anything stupid while high. sure i laugh at things that are fairly irrelevant and likely unfunny, but what's wrong with a laugh?

and as someone else said, think of the cash the government could make off it?

I didn't know about the hormonal thing. That's interesting.

That said, I have definitely found that cannabis is a performance-enhancing drug for a lot of sports. It's easy to dismiss it with, "You just thought you were better because you were high." But the strong correlation between musicians and pot-smoking is there for a reason. If I play Rock Band while high, I can drum out some patterns that I can't even begin to play when I'm sober.

With sports, the big one is bouldering. When I lived in San Francisco sometimes when I was working on a tough problem at Mission Cliffs (the indoor climbing gym in the city) I'd get high one night and walk over and work on it that way.

Something about the way it obliterates my short-term memory makes it very easy to focus on the present moment -- no distractions, the mind doesn't wander, all I can do is stare at the wall. My technical skills and present-moment body awareness were much greater when I was high. I could do moves with grace that were real struggles when sober.

Too bad about the hormonal thing. Have any references on that? I've googled before but never found much clear evidence one way or the other for weed's effect on athletic performance.

I think that if our laws were driven by reason, weed would quite obviously be legal, since there are no intrinsic demonstrable negative effects to its use. I consider the "psychological addiction" (it's not physically addictive) as well as potential lung damage to be extrinsic, because they are, well, not intrinsic. You can get psychologically addicted to anything at all, and you can consume cannabis in plenty of ways that don't cause lung damage (steep in hot butter for long enough to extract it and you can cook with it just fine, or buy a vaporizer and inhale the vapor instead of smoke -- neither does any physical damage to the lungs.)

Of course, law is not driven solely by reason, but also by inertia and perception, and both of those are against marijuana being legalized. Sad when inertia and perception are on the opposite side of the scales as Reason itself, but you know, so it goes, humans are imperfect beings.

No one has ever died from weed! Stoners are also far less sketchy than people into other drugs (so I find).

just a quick point to go along with what ATX said, which i agree with.

MJ grows wild in Nepal and it is acceptable for men to smoke it. but it is frowned upon for women to do so. now if that were the case here, there would be marches on washington/ottawa. (don't ask what Ottawa is... please google it"

Never done it. And I don't believe in any of that "makes you more aware crap". I've been around people that were high. They all act like morons.
