I'm sure this topic has been brought up before, but does anybody recommend a decent gym in SF? I'm currently going to the 24 hour fitness on 16th street and bryant and's not the worse gym in the world, but I know there are better ones out there. I don't mean to sound smug or anything, but I usually go to my college gym during the school year, and it really is a great gym probably because I go to one of the nation's "fittest universities." My school's gym has great facilities and equipment, and I noticed that the 24 hour gym I go to definetely lacks in that deparment.

Also, the number one thing I do hate about the 24 hour gym is how crowded it gets at practically all hours of the day and how many of the patrons do not seem to know what they are doing. I don't want to sound rude or sensitive, but I get a tad claustrophobic and annoyed when I have an hour to do a full-body workout and I'm surrounded by huge crowds of people hogging weights and really old guys who just stand in my way. I'm not looking for a completely empty gym, just one where there are hours in the day where I have space to do my workout. Also, I'm a young, college student so I most likely cannnot afford a private gym or an expensive gym in general.

ANyway, does anyone recommend a gym in SF that's reasonably close to the Mission, AFFORDABLE, has an extensive set of various equipment, and hours of the day where it does not get too crowded? Thanks in advance and I hope I did not sound too rude or anything.
