i don't always feel soar the next day and im not sure

It's what's left of milk after the curds have been removed.

My grandmother used to make cottage cheese on the stove with milk when it had turned.

Whey is good for building muscle. Take it after a workout. As long as you keep total calories the same, you won't gain any more fat than you would have gained without it.

Also, some sources will say it is good for losing fat, but I'm not so sure about the truth of that.

Little Miss Muffet sat on a tuffet
    Eating her curds and whey,
    Along came a spider,
    Who sat down beside her
    And frightened Miss Muffet away

    e

...great cool response viveutvias to Voice22 ....some guys have class...

it wasn't hard to find more info on the net:

Whey protein is a mixture of globular proteins isolated from whey, the liquid material created as a by-product of cheese production. Some preclinical studies in rodents have suggested that whey protein may possess anti-inflammatory or anti-cancer properties; however, human data are lacking.

The effects of whey protein on human health are of great interest and are currently being investigated as a way of reducing disease risk, as well as a possible supplementary treatment for several diseases.

Whey protein is commonly marketed and ingested as a dietary supplement, and various health claims have been attributed to it in the alternative medicine community.

Although whey proteins are responsible for some milk allergies, the major allergens in milk are the caseins.[5][6]

Voice22, there's nothing illegal about whey......so your cousin either (a) doesn't know what he's talking about and can eat whey protein all day long while working at the police academy or (b) he handed you something other than whey protein.

I have 4 friends that have all been through the police academy and have worked out during their training and have used whey religiously.

Read this forum. It's actually kind of funny.

Try taking 1g of whey per pound of body weight everyday. Best time to take it is after an intense workout.

If that's the case, he can sell it and buy as much protein as his heart desires...and a new yacht.

    To the OP

If you take anything with in excess you will get "fatter" whey is a good supp but you really don't need it unless you do some really really heavy lifting or as a meal replacement or to get in another meal to boost metabolism.

I suggest you head to bodybuilding.com and check out some of the articles written by the pros there and then go from there.

Chuckystud is a member up here, he has good advice too.... at times ;)
