Really people, enough. I know many of you can´t see this as you were brought up in the most prurient and puritanical society in the Western world, but when you start using religiously influenced language ("you are a slut as you slept with a different guy every week last month. i don´t do that. I have morals") you are accepting their categories. If you are a gay sinner you have already rejected the moral categories of conservative religion and now it´s time to move on.

We don´t call pigeons or rabbits sluts because they aren´t monogamous, and we don´t consider flowers immoral because they are pollinated by pollens from many different flowers.

Why use the language and accept the moral framework of a group which really wants you dead or at least "saved"?

Well, there is a big difference between them and us.

They lie about their sexual escapades in puritanical pompous sincerity. icon_wink.gif

After all, they just 'fess their sins then once all scrubbed n clean can do it again.

Cute bunny! Though let me not inadvertently encourage a flood of lol-rabbits.

Oh, and speaking of puritanical, I remember an anthropology study I ran across perhaps 10 years ago. Not sure how difficult to locate it for a link here, but trust me for a moment.

So this PhD researches the earliest marriage and birth records from Colonial New England, mostly the period associated with the Puritans, and made some amazing findings. About 60% of the births occurred significantly less than 9 months following the recorded marriage for the mother!

Well! How did that happen, if everyone was being Puritanical? It's indisputable that it was a repressive & neurotic society, all those Salem witches being hanged, all the pillories and public shaming of non-conformists.

But it might suggest there was a double-standard going on, at least regarding that strongest of all human urges, sexuality. So I always have to smile when I hear that term Puritanical, because maybe it isn't quite what we think it was, all these centuries later.

actually the puritans had a practice, the name of which has slipped my mind*, where a guy and girl who were thinking of marriage could share a bed (and frequently have sex) before they married to make sure they liked each other. They didn´t have to marry unless the girl got pregnant. It was much laxer than modern evangelical or catholic practice.

*I think it was called bundling.

This plant encourages promiscuity as the bees penetrate many of the flowers. It is sinful, praise Jesus.
