I'm not sure exactly where I fall on the gun control rights scale -- I believe in the 2nd Amendment, even though the original spirit is largely dead. However, guns scare the crap out of me. I'm getting over it, but whenever someone pulls out their handgun (always in a fairly innocent context..."look at my new handgun!") I freak out.

Maybe a pink gun though. That would be great.

Looks like all of the posters so far have no idea about the Pink Pistols. I'm all for it, but I'm not opposed to a little violence now and then especially if it means stopping gays from getting bashed.

Because nobody would give a fuck, and nobody would be posting their links in forums and such. It would be too mundane.

Its a tight rope to walk, this crazy thing we call gun control. Honestly, my boyfriend and i have been talking a lot about getting trained in firearms and purchasing our own. However, that doesn't mean I am going to carry it around with me waiting to draw at the first crack some (fill in the blank) homophobe makes. I just want it in the house, so if somebody breaks in, etc.
I get what Pink Pistols is trying to accomplish, but its just one of those things....everything sounds better on paper, before you get people involved....and violence isn't always the answer....
and if violence is the answer, wouldnt it be a lot more effective if we went old school and whipped the shit out of the homophobes with our fists? I mean, anyone can shoot a gun...and the stereotype is that we are weaker...so wouldnt the message get more across if we pounded them into the ground? Ive had one person in my 31 yrs call me a derogatory name and get in my face....i whipped his ass...old school hockey style...pulled his shirt over his head so his arms got stuck and i pummeled him....

so I say put down the weapons and raise your fists!

This and much more satisfying - a fair fight that is. And before everyone starts thinking I'm a violent person I'm not. I just don't believe in these people that get beat up and say that they didn't fight back because they are pacifists.

I don't "consider" myself violent because I've never struck anyone out of anger. But I highly recommend self-defense training, and IF NEEDED, using it to beat the fuck out of homophobes who try to harm us just because we're "limp wristed fags."
Kinda proves them wrong in a really fun way. icon_twisted.gif

not a violent person either...but I agree, we should all have self-defense training to some level. Its just the type of world we live in, and sometimes you get backed into a corner and have no choice but to raise fists.

You will have to excuse me living in a virtually gun free country (I have never seen a gun apart from police in airports and soilders on parade) I can't tell if this is real or not.

It's a joke right? But then I'm not sure, nobody wouldn't seriously come up with the line "armed gays don't get bashed" would they? But then some of the other information looks quite genuine.

I don't understand it, if it is serious, I guess the idea is to use the gun as a deterrant and not to actually fire it at somebody, if that's the case does a member of the pink pistols have to announce whenever they arrive someplace that they are homosexual and they do have a gun?

no, it's an actual group, and they're serious. Lots of people in the states carry concealed weapons, and in some states it's perfectly fine to open carry as well.

they're an outreach group that basically says "hey gay guys, it's okay to carry guns. you don't have to be a fucking nutbar NRA crazy person to enjoy firearms and even carry for your own protection."

I don't conceal carry at the time because I've yet to take the course because I don't have the extra cash, but I do have a handgun that I keep in the home for defense purposes. I'm of the assumption that if someone is breaking into my home they are crazy enough to want to kill me in the process of doing whatever they're doing in my home.

no you don't have to announce that you're gay and have a gun. You carry the gun with the hopes that you'll never have to use it, and most of the time when it does come to you having to use it, it doesn't get fired because someone sees a gun and says "oh shit" and runs.

Cold SaidAm I the only one completely disturbed by this?!
This successfully made me more depressed than the suicide thread.

please explain to me how this is depressing. Seriously, I'm not attempting to troll anyone, I'd like to know what reasoning you're using.

My grandfather taught me how to shoot a gun (he was a hunter) and I've fired a few weapons. There certainly is a "rush" to firing a gun, but I would never own one. There has to be a better solution.

Last summer, three people got shot a block away from my apartment and I heard the whole thing. One was shot in the head and died. Like an idiot, I left my apartment to see what was going on; fortunately, there were a lot of other people around and the police were there immediately. I watched the EMTs perform CPR on the man who was shot in the head but he didn't make it. The whole thing happened because of a ridiculous fight and the person who got shot was trying to break it up. It haunted me for a long time and still does to some extent. I couldn't walk by where he was killed for at least a month.

Because of that, I could never own a gun (plus there are times I'd be tempted to use it!). I'd rather take a self defense class, which is probably a good idea because I tend to mouth off too much; my partner is afraid I'm going to get my ass beaten one of these days.

My Dad always taught me to never bring anything to a fight that can be take away from you and used against you.
People should be allowed to have a gun... but what the hell for I have no idea. It is an Amendment right.
The problem with pulling a gun on someone... even if you're trained on how to use it... If you're not in the mind set to use it wisely then you might as well shoot yourself. For example, I have been able to drive since I was 7 years old. I have driven all kinds of vehicles, but that doesn't mean that I can drive in the Indianapolis 500. I believe everyone should be trained how to use a gun. Then take a self-defense course... and by all means learn how to take someone’s weapon away from them and know how to beat the living shit out of the with it, then hopefully you won't have to actually shoot them.
Homophobic predators rarely attack a gay man alone. My God they might actually loose and then that would be little too embarrassing. A gay man can be as Nelly and limp-wristed as he wants to be... but to be defenseless is ridiculous.
Two drag queens in a town I lived in once were walking to the bar for a drag show one night (kind of stupid since it was a really bad neighborhood) but they weren't afraid. They were attacked, but since both of them were black belts... the poor attackers went home by ambulance. Of course it was in all the papers. icon_redface.gif
I have been around guns my whole life and owned a few... I was in the army for many years... I have been trained how to use them... But could I take control of a desperate situation a maintain control of it. I am not willing to find out. I would like to hope so. I don't and won't ever carry a gun.
Point of it is, there is no better deterrent for homophobia than getting your ass kicked by a fag. AND MAKE DAMN SURE you politely remind them that you're FAG ASS has just kicked theirs.....

    ^^^^^^^^^^^^^Yes^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Regardless of how well anyone can shoot stationary targets or how many times he or she has gone through shooting courses with moving targets, nothing prepares you for the actual moment when you pull the trigger and inflict a gsw on another human. Even if you've gone hunting (for animals).

I can see the rationale for creating a group like Pink Pistols. There was definitely a time and place for this to happen. I agree with the underlining principle of teaching people, particularly targeted groups, how to protect themselves; however, I don't agree with what it has turned into.

Funnily enough my dad taught me the same thing about bringing stuff to fights. I was also taught how to get whatever it is back, should it be taken away. It is my personal belief that before anyone begins to utilize any device for protecting oneself he or she should first learn to use themselves to that end. Even if it is as simple as running away.

I'm all for it......IF (and this is a big "if") the gun owners seek proper training. Sadly, the world of guns is filled with people capitalizing on misinformation and myth. Proper research and education is essential. A commitment must be made to regularly scheduled and disciplined practice sessions.

sauvixThis and much more satisfying - a fair fight that is. And before everyone starts thinking I'm a violent person I'm not. I just don't believe in these people that get beat up and say that they didn't fight back because they are pacifists.

That assumes your opponent is interested in a fair fight. What if it turns out the guy has a buck knife? Good luck.

I think it would be pretty badass to see Glenn Beck freaking out and crying while airing footage of armed gays/lezzies marching against anti-gay protests.

I like the idea of armed trannies too.

I have a vast assortment of weapons of social distraction . I also have a Concealed Weapons Permit . And yes I carry a 45CAL with me where ever I go . I think its a good thing . I wish there was a Gay Shooting Club in Orlando . It would be hot .
