I'm lean and I do cardio 2x a week for 50 mins, I also try to hit the gym for weights 2-3x a week..and I do ab/chest exercises at home...but I want lines! Lines lines lines damnit! It's so aggravating I don't know what to do..I eat healthy already, barely any fat. Should I just increase reps or what??

If you look at my hoodie pic, I want my chest to be more outlined (specially the middle vertical chest line) and my abs too! Please, any advice? icon_evil.gif

You look like you need to increase your mass first. Your lean with no mass. Lift heavy go for 3 sets, 6 reps use your basic exercises with free weights. Build yourself up first then go for definition with lower weight and higher reps. With your abs, do crunches that will bring them around. Flies with dumb bells or the cable machine or the pec deck will put a trench in your chest like you want. It just takes time to build things up JD so stay with it.
    Good luck

I hate to say it, and am going to seem a little callus, but to get better ab lines while situps may help a bit you are going to have to work on your diet. abs are made in the kitchen not the gym. The only way to make abs more visible is to lower your body fat percentage, and the last place guys tend to lose body fat is on the stomach. you look great as you are, but your stomach still retains a little bit of fat. I would agree with JD though. If you want more lines start by bulking up the muscle a bit more

You're 5'7", 127 pounds. Gosh, maybe your body is in famine mood from starving all the time.

Starving teaches your body how to be a fat-storing machine, instead of a fat-burning machine.

First, thing, EAT! Get some muscle on you. That'll help you stay lean and bring your body out of famine mode. You are defeating your goal by being so underweight.

You don't want to look like you live in some third world country, so, get to eating, get up to at least 160, or so, and THEN consider getting leaner. Right now, you're starving yourself to death. STOP IT.

Chucky he is not underweight. not everyone wants to be a monstrous freak like you!!. 5 foot 5 and 210 pounds is not normal. Stop being a douche bag and treating people like crap (sounds like roid rage to me) because they have no desire to look like a freak, and yes that comment is coming from the kid who had blue hair!!

    yo, chucky!
do you abide by the "bulk-then-shape-up" method? 'cos i was told the same but i'm too afraid to 'eat' 'cos i might just bulk up in the wrong places!!!
    enlighten me please.
    cheers,
    zim
p.s. i think i have "thick" skin on my torso... i felt it and the guy who was piercing my navel and nipples said so too as he was having a hard time getting the needles through... is there hope for lines for me then?

    Nope.

But, at 127 at 5'5", he's obviously needing to eat.

I think it's silly to get fat first.

Yeah, I often think chucky wants everyone to just be a hulking man-beast (leave some of the lither ones for me, btw, chucky) but in this case, I think he's right. I'd guess JD's body fat is very low already, probably 7% or lower. There's no real visible fat on his abdomen, and it's certainly not what's ruining his dreams of crisper abs (whereas, in my case, it rather obviously is, but damn it, that ice cream was GOOD.)

I think JD just needs to bulk up, significantly increase his calorie consumption and make sure he's working out well and getting the right nutrition. Those "lines" just come from more muscle mass than you have right now, man.

    Yup...
I have to agree with Chucky here
The man wants definition but there's not that much there to be defined
He's got to add more muscle weight
Which means eating more and tossin around more metal

I agree with Chucky too. You have to build to get the muscle mass underneath. You can do so without becoming a "monster" as Chungo so nicely put it. But he is right, that diet is a huge part of your goals.

Try upping your protien and working with heavier weights. Your frame makes me think you have a pretty fast metabolism, so feel free to feed those muscles. Sometimes we think starving ourselves will help get us cut. That's the mentality that will get you in trouble. Get a good balance of low fat an dmoderate carbs. But the protein will help you get a more lean defined body.

You can do situps until you die, but they will usually only help with endurance. Try weighted ab exercises to get some more out of your ab workout.

first start off by reducing that cardio time too as its not going to help you reserve the calories to build.

you obviously have a naturaly high metabolism and if you dont want to eat eat eat you need to get efficient in your workout ie less time to take the muscle to failure

I see you changed your height from 5'7" to 5'6". Even then 127 is quite a bit light at that height.

Lol I didn't change my height..you crazy. Thank you all for your advice, but I do have a problem, my friend is like 5'5" and like 120lb if not less..and he has perfect abs...so defined...drives me MAD. So um, it can't be muscle mass...I REALLY don't want to be a huge muscle dude...I wanna be like lean muscle hot..like models!

I feel really, really guilty if I eat unhealthily or with alot of fat. I keep thinking I'm fat because my abs aren't defined. I pretty much want a body like Channing Tatum mmmm...yes...lean bliss

he also plays professional soccer? and a really really REALLY fucking good dancer.

i would suggest eating. if you eat and workout hardcore, it won't have time to go to fat. but you need to get some weight on you first.

but if you really want to un-proportion out yourself, just add resistance. rope ab crunch. start doing windshields: hanging leg raise, keeping your legs straight make one big circle in front of you trying to get your legs up against your chest and arms when making the top of the circle. i hope that make sense. but quite frankly, just add mass everywhere. you've got the lean, but itd look even hotter bigger ;)

Actually, it can be muscle. At 5'5" he is shorter than you, but almost the same weight. He looks like he has greater muscle density than you do, but the better thing is to not compare yourself to him.
Also in defense of Chucky, he didn't say to eat unheathy, he just said to eat. It is possible to eat healthy and still add some mass. You can always do protein shakes, egg whites, water packed tuna...
Just eat smaller meals more frequently.
At 5'6" or 5'7" 160 would be rather muscular, and probably not a look you would want. But another 10-15 pounds of solid muscle all over will help you out in your goals. Muscle will help keep that metabolism going but also give you some bulges in the right places to get those lines.

    Gosh...

    9730_22155.jpg

    5'5", 165#.

    9730_132305.jpg

    5'5" 195#

I never thought this had much semblance to an ape.

    11 meals a day.

40 to 60 grams protein each.
22 to 50 grams of carbs each.
2 big tablespoons of peanut butter, or about 1/4 can of cashews daily.

Good enough for the trophies, both times.

I don't know that you should be scared of 136 at your height.
