What the fuck causes it? I hate it. Anyone else get it? I feel like there's really no cure. I just learned to live with it. And what sucks is sometimes I get huge zits on my back or shoulders and I feel like people at my gym think I am on roids cause of the breakouts. Anyway, if anyone has any suggestions on treating it without putting hard antibiotics or any prescription drugs into my body that would be awesome!

    thanks,

I'll occasionally use a home remedy of a cup of water, a half cup of apple cider vinegar, and a few drops of tea tree oil. It's helped keep my skin fairly clear.

I used to get them on a regular basis, but i started noticing that each time i spend time out in the sun and got a tan, my face and back would clear up. you can try that...but that's not really a healthy solution.

i also switched to unscented body wash for sensitive skin. (some fragrances aggravate people's skin---so i just took the precaution to avoid scented soaps). then, i rub some oxy facewash on my back when i shower. it seems to help me...but maybe i'm just convincing myself that icon_biggrin.gif.

I still have it pretty bad... I've used almost everything - proactive, nuetrogena, clean and clear, aveeno, you name it... Every time I would switch to a different brand, it would kind of fade, but it would spring back too quickly. I hear sunlight helps (as long as you've got sunblock on!) and I've noticed it helps a little bit too...

Some people swear by vinegar... though I can't imagine the smell would be easy to wear around.

I've kind of started a "new" process... use an exfoliant in the shower, a light moisturizer when you dry off, and then "touch up" with a "mark eraser" (clean and clear calls it that). It seems to work a bit... doubled up with sunshine, and my skin is starting to get a lot clearer!

It just depends on your skin type, I guess!

Oh man...this is something I deal with every single day. I have no idea what to do! I have, however, noticed that when I stopped taking supplements (protein shake/bar), it has helped a lot, but I still get it on my shoulders, sometimes chest, and rarely on my back. It REALLY sucks.

    - Stay hydrated. Sweating helps clear your pores.
    - Change your gym shirts everyday.
    - Use a mild anti-bacterial soap (Dial).
    - Get some moderate sun exposure. The UV helps kills the bacteria.

Cut out all dairy from your diet. This worked for me.

    thanks,

See a dermatologist, it might be treatable. My Freshman college roommate had this, I mean seriously, his back had more zits than I've ever seen on a teenager's face, and huge ones, too. He claimed some prescription ointment from a doctor was gonna clear it up, but never did. But that was over 40 years ago, so maybe better remedies are available now. Try them, and I hope they work.

I do think you need to see a doctor, though, and not expect that home remedies will cure it. You may have to take antibiotics and other prescription drugs, but what is your objection to that, if you want this to go away? See a medical professional.

Yeah I was going to say Accutane too, but then you said no prescription drugs (and TheGuyNextDoor: Accutane against a little oily skin? What kind of quack doctor gives that prescription?).

5% benzoylperoxide cream. It's over the counter and it prevents the pores from closing up. Bacteria is only a problem in a closed pore, but too much exfoliation might cause your skin to overcompensate. Try it.

I had acne for years and years and years. It was the dirge of my adolescent years since my parents didn't have money for the dermatologist. Accutane became my life-blood and saved me from more scars. But if you don't want prescription drugs, I have to agree with the Clearasil comments, although it's not nearly as affective as Accutane.

Acne is usually caused by a high level of testosterone in the body. I remember getting acne all over my back and shoulders the first year I began lifting weights. Eventually it went away after I used Witch Hazel, which is an astringent, on the spots where the acne was appearing. You can buy a bottle of Witch Hazel for $5-6 at any major drugstore. I've been using it for 3 years and it's prevented any recurrences of acne breakouts.

i found being in the sun helped, i don't get it much any more but in high school i had it. then i went travelling to a warm climate, and the sun took care of the rest. the occasional ones still comes up.

i still get regular acne, have never been able to get rid of it completely despite washing the face. i don't want to take drugs unless its a last resort. so i put up with it

Sympathies bud. Back in the day my Mom panicked (never get a wife)(jokes on you Mom) w/my pizza face (very mild) and sent me to a dermatologist (circa 1976/8th grade). RetinA cream and vit. A and science has come a long f'in way since then but it worked for me. If you have insurance go to a derma Dr. and they will set you straight. I still believe diet plays a roll and it's very specific to the individual. The anti bionics aren't such a bad thing either for the sebaceous gland skin infections. One shot and seems to clear it up for good.

There are medications to get rid of it. Go see a real Doctor, not a gay internet doctor.

OK, 3 glasses of wine into the night and I let anti bionics slip past. I meant antibiotics. Sorry. My apologies.

Thanks guys....even for the funny comments....bout laying on my back with my legs in the air. However, I want to cure this for me, not impressing any guys.

I've tried prescription drugs in the past....they work for a little while when on them but it comes right back when I go off, and I don't want to stay on drugs my whole life. I know it's unhealthy.

Being a red head, the sun isn't my friend. BUT I have noticed it helps clear up break outs when I get them. Also living in San Francisco, we don't get much sun.

I'm going to try a peroxide body wash and scrub my back everynight before bed. I usually shower in the AM and not always again before bed. I'm sometimes too tired. But I think I just need to shower twice a day.

Anyway, thanks again for the tips and if you think of anything else let me know.

    Cheers!

    Hope you read this: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20070801131605AAR3obc
And I agree - a cream for your shoulders would probably be more helpful than a body wash. Maybe take some pictures along the way so you can see if there is improvement.

One thing I forgot to say earlier. After I did Accutane I would still get breakouts if I ate chips or fries. Even very small amounts and the breakouts would take 2-3 weeks to clear. Never had any problems with dairy like some people.
