When Making Vacations Plans......Should GLBT & GLBT friends first try to make an attempt to plan our vacations at GLBT friendly places? Everyone seems to like our money but that does not mean that they support equal rights.

Depends on how much you value traveling to different places in the world vs. 'supporting' gay rights. I dont think they are mutually exclusive and I want to go to a lot of places that arent that gay friendly. There's too many wonderful places in this world to limit myself by what destinations are very gay friendly.... sometimes you gotta just lay low for a few days. Doesnt mean you cant have fun!

There is a whole interesting world out there with many sights and sounds and my worse nightmare would to be in a resort with a bunch of screaming gays ! Some people are gay friendly even if they are straight on this planet!

While I do support boycotts, you can find reasons to avoid most people, businesses, and countries because there will be some aspect that offends you. If you don't want to go to the Bahamas because a large majority don't support same-sex marriage -- fine, it's your money. But if all gays were to stop going there, how could you expect them to be gay-friendly? How is a relationship supposed to develop? What it does is leave room for the bigots to define homosexuality.

I'm going to say no. If you think like this, then your vacations are going to be quite limited. I plan about 4-5 vacations a year with my job. . . right now I'm vacationing in Seoul. . . not very gay friendly overall, but it's not going to stop me from coming here and enjoying the city. I also take a lot of trips to the carribean. . . a lot of island nations frown on homosexuality period, but some of the islands have the most beautiful coral reafs around, so yea, a must see for myself, whether the island is glbt friendly or not doesn't matter. You do not have to wear a pride flag everywhere you go. . . Just go, enjoy the culture, see the local sites, and have some fun. That's what vacationing is all about. . .

I agree with Halcyonz doing this will kinda set up your vacations for fun only around the gay community.

Go enjoy something exotic! i.e. Macchu Picchu

Just be careful to check out some of the gay resorts, hotels, B&B's first or get feedback online. I've had the misfortune to have booked at some gay friendly hotels only to be so thoroughly disgusted. I was surprised that the roaches hadn't fled also. I think some business owners think marketing to a "gay" clientele means marketing to people who don't have any other options.

I travel frequently and never specifically choose a hotel or destination because it is gay friendly.Besides the obvious destination limitations, staying at "Dorothy friendy" places can be disappointing.
As we all know, gay people are not always nice, assuming that your rainbow vacation starts at home and ends in a pot of gold is not always the case.
I have had my underwear stolen from my locked hotel room at one gay resort that I stayed at,a gay bed and breakfast boasted of a nearby gay beach that was inhabited by nothing but cops and seagulls in peak season, and I have been steered towards countless gay friendly eateries serving gruel at best.
I always make sure to check out the gay parts of a place that I visit if they exist, but I don't make it my bullseye destination.

You can find the gay where ever you go if that's what you're looking for ( bars, nightlife, etc.) most resorts don't really care as they are there to make money. An all gay cruise sounds worse than thumb screws at a turkish prison to me.
