What's the definition of cutting VS bulking?

I've been going to the gym for a few years now and I always hear people talking about cutting VS bulking but the answer is not always the same. From my understanding, cutting is when someone is trying to lose fat and develop highly defined muscle. Bulking is when someone is trying to make significant gains in muscle size and strength so that they have larger biceps, pecs, etc.

I'm not an expert on this so I don't even know if that's right. I've been meaning to ask this since there are too many conflicting views I've encountered that I'm not too sure anymore. Thanks for any feedback!

this is the normal usage. The dirty truth is that you donĀ“t need to do it this way and can make lean gains....It is just one of the many parts of the BB paradigm that have been accepted as normal in "common knowledge" without it actually being the best thing for most people to do (another example is the use of splits).

hey lost boy ... well there are different theories about bulking vs cutting.vs lean bulk

I love that debate however for civil reasons will say this

Cutting: figuring out ur maintance calories Minus 500 calories and then macros of 50/20/30 (protein/carb/fat )

Bulking: figuring out maintance calories plus 500 calories for slow bulk
macros are dependant on many factors but up the carbs.
