    Good side

!) Meet the best mates in the world

    2) See some of the fittest guys round

    3) Travel the world

    Bad side

    1) Have to have self control over your feeling (being gay)

    2) been alone ( no partner )

    3) losing friends

only ever fell for one guy who was in British Army like me he was on a training courses in United Kingdom.

Both of us about to be shipped oversea after the courses.
We meet in a pub when off duty and some girls ask me if I wanted to go to a party I said love to.
As leaving the pub this guy came up to ask where I was going. I said got a party to go come along (he did).

All night just talked we had so much in common with each another.
(girls kept asking for dance but I only had eyes for one person that night)

Got a cab back to barrack with him.Went through main gate
he's accommodation was on one part of camp mine on another side about 20 min's walk
I said good night he said I walk with you back to your room (so sweet )
just sat on wall out side for about 20 min's. Then got up and said got to go
chat in the morning. As I was going he gave me kiss (shocked but loved it)

everywhere I go kept bumping into him. My heart was pumping like anything when I see him.

A few days later he was finished the course and going oversea
Only had this one chance to tell him how I felt about him but it was in army bar in front of hundreds of solider's he was playing pool with he's mates. He saw me and stop playing walked over to the bar.

We started to chat and I said just be safe keep your head down I said maybe we can meet up when we both get back
A few months later had heard that he was killed in action he was 22 years old at the time

Sad story from army guy.. but one ofthe many I am sure.

I was in the NZ territorial forces for 14 years - came out after around 5 years and really was not an issue. I was medical corps and then nursing corps but still we went on exercise with the wide range of personell.

A couple of overseas deployments and my officer training and I had a clock with a photo of my (now ex) partner and apart from a few "hey he is cute" comments it was all good.

NZ is pretty progressive and there are regular lectures on human rights and non-discrimination so I think that re-enforces that the army is open to all people. We also have a high number of women in our armed services in all trades so I am sure that helps as well.

If we ever had to double up on bed spaces - and there was an uneven gender mix it was usually me that doubled up with one of the women - and everyone was pretty happy with that - but all the guys were ok about bunking up together as well. Hey ... we were there to do a job and not there to try and score a shag so it was all pretty professional so all good!

It is pretty much like being gay in any other working environment. It has its ups and downs.

P.S. Forget the porn movie images. It just don't happen.

All those porno scenes are purely fictional. No way guys get that horny and tiings break out in a mass orgy. I've fooled around with a few guys but I've learned my lesson as things got a bit too messy for my liking.

When I was in -- 20 years ago -- I became suicidal. I tried to kill myself I was so depressed and mentally ill from knowing I was gay. I loved the army, I had a massive crush on a guy and he liked me too from the way things felt -- I hated myself so much coming from a southern family that I just wanted relief.

I don't know where some ppl get the idea that all military men have chiseled either, most of the guys I work with have bellies that flap over their belt line from all the excessive drinking that's encouraged.

If anything I see most military men are alot slimmer than their civilian counterparts. It by no means mean their are in peak shape though.

Yes, it's a perpetual all you eat buffet at some bases, here they do do a bit of rationing out but it's still not as healthy as it should be. When we deploy the choices are a lot more plentiful but it's still crap if you look at it.

I've been stationed with UK soldiers as well as with the French, Dutch, and Canadiens... I think the US soldiers have the lowest morale of them all. But that's just my opinion of course.

Sorry to hear you story sounds like a great guy.

It often depends on the unit. I was working alongside the US military in a hot and sandy place recently. Most of those guys were big (ie buff), proportionate and looked extremely healthy (not unlike the guys in the above pic, in fact). I think they liked their weight training (rather than cv), but who's complaining? Of course you get lard asses in the military, just like you get them anywhere else.

your A-typical Seal team or E.O.D. The lack of tattoo's says Seal; the foot wear screams EOD.
    Lonely and frustrating...some's it up.
as for crazy stories; I have plenty, but they involve mostly bashing or dishonorable discharge and the over use of the word fagot...I'm guessing you were looking for more of the "snorkeling" type of stories though; sorry not my experience.

I will say there is a lot of homoerotic horseplay but nothing gay is intended, of course. When dealing with straight men nothing is suppose to be "gay".

Ah, AMD at NAS Jacksonville and their usual "Gay Thursdays", good times.

I was in the aviation controls building, in the weather department, and saw so many hot pilots that it was stupid!
