In The Eyes of the Beholder...

How do you define beauty in a man and why?

Initial interest: Looks (lean, defined, or very close) -- Because something has to catch my attention before I look further.
Holding interest: Attitude, personality -- Because hot guys are a dime a dozen, but awesome guys are rare.

I'm attracted to guys who stand out in some way because of unique features, personality, intelligence, sense of humor, imagine, or inner life. I'm most attractive to highly creative people because of the way they see the world and how they relate to others. This may sound strange, but I fell in love with my partner because of his soul. After 2 1/2 years, I feel like I've barely touched the surface and continue to learn more about him. He is unlike any person I've met before and has taught me so much. I'm never bored around him.

Many men look so beautiful on the outside but don't do anything for me; they spent so much time working on their bodies and appearance and spent little time on everything else.

Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder, and thinking of that I wrote this in the third of a trilogy of fairy tales for grown-ups..

(two characters, Frank and Janice, fell in love and theirs was special, the beauty they found in each other transformed the world around them, and their friend, Otilija of Faerie Transcended, watched)

"So then, Beauty did in fact reside in much more than its bizarre, abstract, visual, tactile, audible and other forms. It resided in the heart, in the way one feels things fitting together in a finite world, if any should pay attention. As well, it breathed in the knowledge most have of right and wrong, of true and false, that subliminal sense being an internal compass too often discredited.

A true siren, Beauty called to Men every-There that Janice and Frank went. They did indeed, Went. Otilija saw both of them follow each other in turns through places in the world she hadn’t thought of in a very long time. Throughout it all they courted each other. It was in their faces, their tones of voices, their posture. Sensuous, they pervaded the world. They drew Men towards a new but old concept, that Beauty even entailed the dance of atoms all were composed of. "

Paul hit the nail on the head. The only thing I would add are eyes. I really think a person's eyes can say so much about a person.

I have to agree with this as well. But has anyone else here experienced not finding someone particularly physically attractive initially but, over time as it becomes clear what a great person they are and how beautiful they are on the inside, finding that you start to see them as physically beautiful as well?

    Beauty

Pretty much my ideal. There is a difference between physical beauty and that for which you may lust. Took me a long time to figure that out.

but to answer the OP: a certain level of confidence, and good looks usually goes with it. One who does not run out of things to talk about (except the I, me and myself trash).
