so last night i was heading to the bathroom and i went to turn the light on and i had my iphone in my hand because i was using it as a flashlight so i didnt have to turn any lights. wwweeeellllll, my hand hit the wall on accident and my phone flung out of my hand into my toilet =(

i look back now and have to laugh a little but still it sucks.

so far ive just tried drying it outside in the sun. my friend said to try putting it in rice and leave it in the sun so I'm doing that now.

do you guys know of any other methods that are known to work?

    much appreciated in advance =D

Definitely in a seal-able container with lots of dried rice. A zip-lock bag is a good possibility.
Probably not in the sun - the heat might cause the water to vaporize while you want the rice to absorb it. Lots of dry rice should be enough to absorb all the moisture, hopefully quickly enough so no damage will be done to the iphone.
    Good luck!

Given how lame the new iPhone has turned out to be, flushing it would probably have been the best course of action.

Rice is probably the best unless you have some sodium carboxide pellets... at least that's what we use in the lab.

I put my digital camera through the washing machine and putting it in rice for about a week did help, it actually worked after. Problem was soap got in the lens, so it took crappy photos after! I just bought a new one. But yea, the rice method has worked for me but takes time. I didnt put in the sun though... I think that may make it "sweat" too much and create a bigger problem...

3 million sold in 3 weeks with a return rate of 0.44%.. consumer reports' top rated phone with a score of 76/100, despite their 'can't recommend' rating. every iphone4 owner i know is exceedingly happy with their purchase. apple hating is just apple hating.

from apple's just released quarterly numbers....

"AppleĀ® today announced financial results for its fiscal 2010 third quarter ended June 26, 2010. The Company posted record revenue of $15.7 billion and net quarterly profit of $3.25 billion, or $3.51 per diluted share. These results compare to revenue of $9.73 billion and net quarterly profit of $1.83 billion, or $2.01 per diluted share, in the year-ago quarter. Gross margin was 39.1 percent "

looks like there are a lot of unhappy iphone4 owners..... not.

Rice in a sealed container is probably your best but, but with the large touchscreen, you're probably out of luck.

And btw, can't people not like the iPhone without being deemed a hater? Jesus... icon_rolleyes.gif

same thing happened to me while drunk on the beach icon_confused.gif I was doing a "baywatch run" along the water in flip flops....cause I'm a dumb ass when drunk.....tripped and fell with my blackberry in my pocket, aaanyways i couldnt do the whole rice in a zip lock bag thing till 3 hours later when i got home, but then i left it for a day in the bag, nothing happened, it didn't help, I'm guessing cause I waited too long. Sooooo if you haven't done the zip lock and rice trick yet.....chances are you're gonna have to get a new iphone icon_sad.gif sorry bud....

I haven't baptized my iphone yet, but my first one did have a lovely date with the sidewalk. It ended up getting screwed on that date--I think that it felt a little abused to be honest. The iphone wasn't wearing protection, but now I always keep it wrapped up.

As for your situation, prayers and hopefully you have some good karma coming your way?

I'm only speaking for my own personal experience. I loved my iPhone 3G except for the poor signal quality, which I assumed was AT&T's fault. I had heard that the iPhone 4 would have a better antenna. Now that I have it, not only is the signal quality as bad as before, it's worse. All the time I am seeing the bars drop to zero. And the odds of that increase dramatically if I HOLD the dang thing.

Just venting my frustration. I really don't care about all those other happy owners. I'm not happy. I have nothing against Apple. But my new phone's been a real disappointment so far.

When a piece of electronic equipment gets wet immediately dip it rubbing alcohol if you have any around. The alcohol displaces the water and it is much easier for alcohol to evaporate than it is for water to evaporate. If you can't get to alcohol immediately, however, do not try this trick.

I've unfortunately dropped my phone in the toilet twice so now I have a no phone in the bathroom policy.

This is what I was told by Verizon when I dropped my phone in the pool the other day. they also said after that, put it in a bag of rice for 24 to 48 hours. I did and my phone works just fine. It has also had a date with the kitchen floor a couple of times and now it automatically turns the ringer off if I have not used it in at least a half hour.

Your opinion is useless since you're not basing it on anything. It's like saying "OMG I hated the Lord of the Rings movies... even though I've never seen one."

Sorry this bit of bad luck occurred. We all have to keep those lids down in our bathrooms. It just looks better - and might just help us avoid situations like yours. I dropped a toothbrush once - - - luckily the water was clean. Nowadays, keeping the lid down keeps me out of trouble!
