Okay, so I was wondering if people could point me in the direction of some current great gay music... I'm extremely eclectic and listen to pretty much anything.

I just am looking for some....modern stuff, since it seems like almost every song people listen to and just go, "That's gay" came from the 80s. ...and I'm probably showing my youth and ignorance here; however, I honestly don't know what's the deal with Gloria Gayner or... or any one else like her that has what's considered to be gay songs.

although her music isn't just gay-ish...you can find very very urban Britney songs.

    Kylie, Kelis.

hmm... okay, I guess the best way would be to say, what's the YMCA/Raining Men/etc of our generation Y? I mean...the 70s/80s all have these great songs that stand out and currently I look at the music industry and find...songs that don't matter a few months later, let alone decades later.

That would be pretty much every band that's started up in the past 5-10 years.

HI CR--Just my humble 2 cents: Those songs you referred to back in the 70s-80s were popular in the gay clubs. Having been there, and as I see it today, most (even the gay) clubs are very mixed straight/gay, men/women. I suppose that's what we've championed for, but those gay anthems I fear are gone. Also, back then, most songs in the clubs had words and a chorus along with the beat. Ok I'm old so shoot me. LOL

For modern anthems, I'd say you still need to go with Kylie, Lady Gaga or Britney... mainstream gay clubs don't have very niche taste, so it's just regular Top 40. Otherwise, it's still the old disco anthems that come out. In Europe you could add Kate Ryan and Cascada for that special gay chav Ibiza vibe.

Otherwise, I recommend the new Scissor Sisters!

if you like emo/mellow music, i would say "numb" by mat mchugh, "little lies" by David Barnes. more upbeat, definitelyyyy "love the way you lie" by eminem feat rihanna. (rihanna totally makes the song awesome)

hi. i find it a little strange that it's called gay music and yet none of the artists anyone has listed is gay, nor deals with particularly gay themes (except for dancing...)

Some artists generally associated with gay music are pretty gay friendly (Lady Gaga, Madonna, Kylie etc) but it's not really gay music.

I always found it weird that high energy dance music was always considered gay, as it was never really the kind of music that I liked. Some is okay, but it can all be a bit too sugary and manic elative to sustain repeated listening outside of a dancefloor. (I also found it weird that all of those muscular and/or masculine men who were trying to look macho were always dancing to such poofy music.)

I'm know i'm being nitpicky, but there are plenty of gay/queer artists out there that make great music - and not necessarily dance music. So I would recommend:

    Jay Brannan
The Magnetic Fields (aka Stephen Merritt, plus his other bands: The Gothic Archies, The 6ths, Future Bible Heroes)
    k d lang
    Morrissey
    Rufus Wainwright
    Anthony & The Johnsons
    George Michael
    McAlmont
    The Gossip
    Men
    Scissor Sisters
    R.E.M.
    Sia

plus probably many others that i've forgotten

but if it's dance music you're interested in (and not necessarily gay) then I recommend these bands. They are not really what you would call gay dance music though:

    The Presets
    Hot Chip
    Chemical Brothers
    LCD Soundsystem
    Underworld
    Justice
    Soulwax
