I know it's not for a few more months, but I wanted to see how many guys from across the county(or around the world) are planning on coming to the HOC this year.

Hopefully we wont have that freak snow storm like last year...

I'd like to go, if I can swing it. Yes, last year was a disappointment!

I like to try it, though I've never done a head race before. I do know that many people from the Ann Arbor Rowing Club will be there.

it wouldn't be a good first head race.
the course is very difficult if you've never been on the charles, and there are THOUSANDS of boats on the water at once.

Last year when I was there, when I passed under the Wilkes Bridge, where you make a sharp turn to port, I called Starboard rowers to give me an extra power 5 for Steel Cajones. Lol, loved it. Such a cox'n's race.

I got a friend on this site, Mr. sexy Jrs1 who will let me stay with him I I get to go.

    Going in an alumni boat.

I have a feeling we'll do better in the drinking part of the race...

RowBuddy saidWe should plan on meeting up. I know in past years the gays have self segregated and had house parties or gone to the Boston version of boys town. How about this year we go to John Harvards sat night with the rest of the rowing teams and make the effort to be social with people not of the same sexual preference? When we self segregate we miss out on hanging with Olympians and other really interesting people. The last three years I have had the oppurtunity to talk to US national team rowers, touch real gold medals and get drunk with some if the fastest rowers in rowingdom. Who cares that they are not (all) gay! I have found that 1/3 of all rowers are gay and nearly all are lbgt friendly anyhow! So how about it?

haha I didn't realize that there was a boston version of boys town since the entire town is pretty gay friendly and there are gays everywhere!

it would be cool to meet other gay rowers across the country. i'm still in college so I usually end up going out with the teams from my school.

RowBuddy saidSince nobody else has said anything I am going to make the official decision.

the "Official" Head of the Charles "Gay" meet up is at John Harvard's in Harvard Square on Saturday night around 9:00PM. (Though I will be there earlier for dinner with my teams) It is not a gay bar, but it is where the other rowers go. We are not going to self segregate! (gasp! the horror!)

All other "parties" are impostors. Accept no imitations. Bring all your friends.

Anyone else going to be there Sat night? I should be there a little after 7:30

    Possibly.....

Not my sport to compete in but I'd love to watch! I've been in Boston for 4 years and I never knew this went on. So I'll definitely try to make it out and watch! Good luck and have fun to everyone who's competing!

Flying out tonight for my 33 hours in Boston!

No idea where we're going out Saturday night, but usually we try to meet some other teams and go where the crowd seems to be heading. Then try really hard to rally in time for the flight home...

sick. i used to row in college and rowed the HOTC every year, which was awesome. especially awesome since we rowed on it everyday. but now it's nice to be able to watch the races, watch the rowers i still know on the team race, and be able to relax. the race weekend is NUTS, and i'll be down there rooting for my buddies all weekend. good luck to all the rowers racing!
