Right now working through the 12 week muscle program, but when it's come to the exercises that require tubes, I either skip or make up some kind of cable machine substitute since my gym doesn't have any resistance tubes. I'd like to buy one and wanted some feedback on the types that others have been using. Any particular brands that encouraged/warned against? I know they come in differing amounts of resistance, so what kind do you prefer?

I'm interested in some recommendations too. I think they would be good to have with me when I travel. I seldom stay at a hotel with fitness room, so having something that doesn't take muck room in the suitcase would be nice to have.

SPRI carries some good quality resistance tubes that I use with my clients. You can find them at www.spriproducts.com. Make sure that you are getting enough resistance. They go from yellow being the lightest, then green, red, blue and purple as the greatest resistance.

I guess they'd be good for traveling. But I've been subbing the double cable machine at the gym for the 12-week program also. I don't think I'm losing anything by it. In fact, there's probably greater flexibility in setting the ideal resistance (which is not futile, by the way...).

We use Spri products at Lifetime. I use them when I teach Total Conditioning. The bands are great, but do not use them on concrete or hot tar surfaces. I've seen the results of the bands being used on these surfaces. They wear out very quickly.

I plan on getting my own set so that I can create new exercises for myself and my classes.
