Ok, so I'm a W Hotel Junkie....... I have been a Starwood fan for approx 6 years. I love the feel and design of every unique boutique property W creates. It is probably THE most gay friendly line of hotels out there. (Who else has a Pride 365 package?)

I would like to hear some stories from your W Hotel stays including all your upgrades and how you got them. What is your favorite W property? What status do you have with Starwood?

    My favorite W: W Montreal

A friend of mine rants and raves about the W. He actually used to work at one time at the W in Montreal. He's since moved to Toronto. I may treat myself to the W one of these days. Then I can have a story.

we're still waiting for our W in Nashville to get off the ground. It is fully approved, but the economy thing happened.

It is a brand I'm looking forward to seeing enter the Nashville market as all their hotels seem good. The next to come on line will be in Austin, TX.

Hmmm. Interesting you consider a chain hotel as boutique. Le Germaine in Mtl is infinitely better. W is well, mass marketing of the boutique concept. Hotel St. Paul is also amazing in Mtl. (Madonna's rents the entire property when she is in town)

Glad your experiences have been good! Brand loyalty is what they are going for and its working.... you dont get extra Starwood points for this do you?

The W Hotel in Sydney (as it was called; it's now called The BLUE Hotel and owned by a different group) is pretty funky. A friend of mine used to manage the bar there, which was handy when we wanted after work drinks!

The only W Hotel I have stayed in is the one in Montreal and I was really impressed. It had a really funky, upmarket feel and the staff were very friendly and helpful.

I'm a total W junkie too! It's my favorite bouquet hotel. That Whatever/Whenever button has been hit at some very odd times, but they've always come through.

I've stayed at the W in Chicago (Lakeshore), New Orleans (French Quarters), and Atlanta (Midtown).

My favorite W so far: Chicago (Lakeshore)

Awesome clip Calibro. Wow, I guess the W Montreal is getting a lot of votes on this one. I've been there 5 times and I never get sick of it. I love the colors, the showers, the candles (so gay, I know), and even the Wet Your Whistle water bottles. Another reason I'm in love with the W Montreal is that the GM "sorda" knows me and I had my 30th there and I whined and whined until he upgraded me. So he finally upgraded me to the Wow Suite with a terrace. icon_biggrin.gif

Speaking of Ws, I'm actually on SPG.com right now reserving a few rooms at the W French Quarter - another favorite of mine. I think i've stayed there 4 times already.

RST2009 - "Boutique hotel" is a term to describe intimate, usually luxurious or quirky hotel environments. While I agree with that fact that W is mass marketed around the world, the marketing is geared towards properties that are each very unique (meaning - not like the other) and all have that "boutique" atmosphere, i.e. W French Quarter.

I've only stayed at the W in Chicago (Lakeshore). Only 1 night, it was nice. I have switched to Hilton from Marriott.

I have a few starwood points as well that maybe i'll cash out for a night at a W.

Stayed at the W hotel in Atlanta. Nice hotel but not my favorite in that city. Intercontinental Buckhead is a much better hotel. Two things bugged me about W in Atlanta: 1) no parking- valet only and 2) bar in hotel that attracted large crowd of wannabe seen/admired types into the hotel lobby. Otherwise the room was nice and stay was very pleasant.

Visited a friend at the W hotel in Dallas. Very similar to the W Atlanta with large wannabe crowd hanging around. Rooms in W Dallas aren't really even that nice either. Better hotels in Las Colinas area like the Four Seasons.

there are three Atlanta area W hotels... the midtoWn location bar is a fun Weekend hangout. Not sure Why seeing the hip and fashionable young croWd there Would surprise you. As the 'W' in W Hotels stands for Wannabe, it's no Wonder you saW lots of Wannabes there. Or any other W for that matter. My buddy stayed at the Seattle W and said the room Was so 'slick/sleek' he felt he Was being spied on by hidden cameras :-)

I attended a GLCC (Gay & Lesbian Community Center) reception at a W Hotel here in Fort Lauderdale, right along the beach drive. Nice place, but totally packed in the early evening, a crowd of the kind of obnoxious straights we used to call yuppies, and yuppie wannabees (aka social-climbing red necks). We figured if that's what they attract we wouldn't be back, and haven't been. icon_razz.gif

W's are okay but it's still a corporation calling the shots with the same thing in each hotel. If I want a boutique hotel, I'll look for one unique to the individual city. My first hotel preference is Loews, still a chain but considerably smaller in number of locations. The Loews here in New Orleans is gorgeous and ironically, across the street from the W.

I do like the W. An old bf took me there (W Times Square) b/c I had always wanted to go. It was all right. I can't afford it there on my own, but if we are talking NYC, I like The Jane in the W Village ($99/night for a 50 sq ft room, shared bathrooms) and next I plan to stay in the Ace in midtown.

I've been to 6 or 7 Ws now. The W in Mexico City is unbelievably sexy and hot!

The rooms are designed spectacularly in red and the shower area is a huge open space at the end of each room up against the exterior windows - so you're basically showering in front of the whole city. And then there's a hammock hanging across the shower area too.

    Fab!

Kimpton Hotels is pretty damned gay friendly as well.
They are not as big or flashy as W/Starwood and tend towards "Warm" over flash, but service is usually stellar.

I stayed at the one in Chicago a few years ago and enjoyed it. I bought the bathrobe because I liked it so much. However, a friend of mine stayed in the W in Times Square and I wasn't very impressed. The guy at the front desk was rude and I was surprised to see IKEA furnishing in the room. The property was starting to look a bit run down. My friend said he doesn't stay in the W in Union Square because of bedbugs (I don't know if this is a rumor or not but some NYC hotels do have them). I was much more impressed with the NY Athletic Club.
