So I've been under a load of stress lately, and don't know how to shake it. I've been working my ass off at the gym, but know that making the gains I want isn't going to happen until I chill out. Does anyone have any suggestions?

On your next day off, plan ahead so you can have the entire day to yourself. Then take naps all day long, getting up only to eat, shower, and do nature's duties.

Edit: That is exactly what I'm doing today, after hitting the gym twice yesterday, twice Tuesday, and doing HIIT twice on Monday.

I'd love to say that sounds enjoyable, but I basically do that everyday. Kinda a small part of the problem icon_confused.gif

It's not really the stress relief I need either. I need someone to give ME a massage instead. icon_lol.gif

Light candles, turn off all devices (TV, computer, radio, Ipod, cell phone). Chill in the silence. Sit out on a quiet night porch and take notice of the sounds.

Talking one's self down can work as long as one is fluent in logic and rational thought.

Gym can work if it is a minor issue, but usually I like to talk to my closest friends that have always been there for me. Only thing that works in my book.

Put on some good soul/r&b music (Fats Domino is my favorite) and lose yourself in cooking... whether you're making some whole grain pasta from scratch, or a pecan pie, or a nice big pot of jambalaya, it always relaxes me.

When was the last time you went on a hike, and left the man-made world behind?

I like to create things when I'm stressed. Whether it's food, music, or drawing, forcing myself to focus on something, and only that helps to calm me down icon_smile.gif

Okay, what's causing your stress ?
    Too much work ?
    You hate your job ?
    You hate your boss ?
    Money problems ?
Is it crazy around your house ?

Whatever it is, that's what you need to fix.

I work out my stress at the gym. If I feel sad, angry, upset, nervous, stressed out, all that, I pump those emotions into my workout so I can push that much harder, and when the workout is over, so are the negative emotions.
