Ahh the selling power of the Conservative Myth.

Be patriotic by giving ME money, Hells Yeah! I love Jesus and I love my country and i just darn hate it when Uppity Socialist Negros start messin things up. Buy my product: show Obama that you mean business. My business.

BTW a secular state is what western society is about. It´s not about "freedom" (which is always partially an illusion) or "tolerance". It is about having a state that is not religiously controlled. That is the basic point. The alternative can be seen in Iran or Europe in the middle ages.

I was just there. I spent 5 days at the National Weather Center in Norman collaborating on research with a colleague of mine.

He's aghast, as are millions of people in Oklahoma, about the Christian Rightists exerting their views in such a way.

They are all over the place out there. Even in areas in which there might be legitimate debate (for example, the inclusion of ethanol in gasoline), their arguments are not intellectual ones, but often couched in states' right speak and knee jerk opposition to environmentalism.

There are major gas stations along Interstate 35 between Norman and Oklahoma City, for example, that advertise "Our Gasoline Proudly Has No Ethanol".

That ethanol-less gasoline is a matter of pride is a "matter" of great concern to me. There are reasons to worry about corrosion in engines (that can be easily be prevented in properly maintained engines) and those reasons make it a fair topic for reasoned debate. To make this a states' rights matter fits right into the "tea party" brainless characterization of plots and counter plots to create a "myth of Global Warming."

You'll note how the states rightists on RJ tend to speak in slogans and refuse to debate facts, I am sure. It's even worse in states like this where to NOT be for states rights means you are a traitor, or a communist or something. (I really don't know how to describe that, they are so busy finding plots and plotting groups in the weeds.)

As an aside, one small way to deal with this is to vote with your wallet. Don't patronize places like this. That's what my colleague does. He goes elsewhere.

I had rain gutters installed at my house by a guy recommended by a friend of mine who was a pastor.

They installed the gutters while I was at work, and when I got home I discovered they installed the wrong color. The trim on my house is brown and I wanted brown gutters; they installed white.

When I called him and said so, it eventually turned into an argument, he eventually yelled "I only answer to god"... WTF? I just hung up on the stupid motherfucker.

He called me back and apologized, but we ended up arguing more and he said the same damned thing. I hung up on the dumbass motherfucker again.

He gave me back $150 bucks. The color wasn't such a big deal lol

I just "unfriended" a guy on FaceBook when he started posting biblical scriptures on his wall about " the husband owns the body of the wife..."

Yeah, he's already a weirdo for posting stuff on FaceBook of a personal nature, so I probably would have unfriended him anyway. But as soon as he started posting the Christian Rightist wacko stuff.....I simply don't want to have anything to do with him.

(Sorry for the tangent. Wife, siding, gutters sanctioned by God...it's all part of the same fringe point of view).

Oklahoma along with many other southern states just loves biblical fairy tales because they are easier for primitive minded, religious folks to understand. That is why they have fucked up laws. Aluminum siding a Christian product, now I heard it all. Whats next Christian Kleenix and toilet paper?

This is comical, yes, but it is a stark example of the "Us vs. Them" division that many fundamentalists embrace.

I'm reading a great book right now called American Fascists: The Christian Right and the War on America.

In this book the insightful author explains how fundamentalists use this kind of thing to promote and advantage themselves and to marginalize and repress those they consider outsiders.

Regarding the guy in this ad, I think he just knows there are people who are gullible enough to instantly trust him and do business with him just because he says he's a Christian. It's cynical and manipulative.

Pfffffft who cares... He's not breaking any laws plugging his religion in his commercial. If you don't like his commercial, change the station and don't buy his products. How damn hard is that?

That dude Rachel Maddow is such a lame ass dork. He thinks he's some kind of standup comic. Seriously, who sits back watching him and laughs like OMG this shit is hilarious bwahahaha ughhh... Rachel, just stick to the news and leave the jokes to funny people.

mmm... are you calling Maddow a man for some reason? And Maddow's show isn't a strict news program, it's commentary & analysis. Which SHE does very well, with extremely thorough background research on topics. Compared to some of HER competitors, who are loose with their charges and claims, that they later have to retract, or, lacking any integrity at all, refuse to acknowledge.

Aww, take a deep breath and count to ten... none of us are pissed off, we're amused. If you don't like our discussion, change the thread and buy only Christian conservative aluminum siding, and a back up for each side of the bed (for when the secular socialists come)
