You see two gay men hanging out at a cafe and talking over a cup of coffee or a glass of OJ. Your first thought is???

    1. They're fucking
    2. They're dating
    3. They're hooking up for sexy times
    4. They're just friends.

Wait?!? Gay men can't be friends, Can they?

    or is

Coffee always code for "Sexy Times" ? icon_neutral.gif

First, I don't assume they're gay unless they make it obvious.
Second, I could care less if they're fucking, so I don't assume that either.
Third, if one or both of them is hot, I'm gonna say hi and hope for the best. icon_biggrin.gif

    4. They're just friends. If they were going to fuck they'd probably meet at a bar and take it from there.

I have this awesome life where I don't go out to places and stare at them whilst mentally scrutinizing them.

hahaha i sort of find your post rather funny, my answer would certainly be THEY ARE ONLY FRIENDS.

I went through this with my ex. every single time i met a friend for coffee, he said that having a coffee with someone was "Code for hook up" which i think its completely wrong and personally offensive.

I'd probably saying they are dating or friends. If they are dating, then they are probably as fucking and friends. icon_razz.gif

Coffee is coffee. It's a limited amount of time during which you can catch up with someone or discuss something that is on your mind. Ever heard of "coffee culture"? People go debate and discuss the latest news/trends/gossip at coffeehouses. There is no need to equate coffee with a date. It could be. But it also may not be.

My first thought would be that they are just a couple of friends hanging out together and then, depending on the body language, maybe a couple of guys getting together for the first time.

Actually, this reminds me of a game an old roommate and I used to play. When we'd go out to lunch or dinner, we'd watch some of the couple and try to create a back story for them - like were they on a first date, did they just have a fight and that is why they weren't talking to each other, etc. Oh well, it was a way to pass the time back then! icon_cool.gif
