    But "human rights for gays."

I wonder if a change in terminology may change perspectives on the issues.

Possibly... hell, I wouldn't even say gay rights, I would say equality for all mankind.

And also "civil rights for gays."

These might make opponents to have to openly oppose human and civil right. ... less tenable positions

It´s the basic point. "gay rights" is just short hand for "equal human rights to all people regardless of their inbuilt sexual orientation".

Seriously though, I think what's lacking in the gay male world is a source of media that is more in touch with everyday people. Too often we read the gay magazines and they are clearly catered to the top 1% in the gay community; the majority of gay men I know either aren't meeting anyone or stopped trying, some have met someone great but that's a very small number of guys.

I know more gay people who are more worried about what's going to happen when the next round of job cuts happen that will include them, where are they going to go when they have to move but have no money to do so, what's going to happen to their health insurance, how can they go back to school when they can't afford to keep their car running and their rent paid; when looking at the big picture, 'gay rights and issues' are not much different from the rest of society except for one very big thing - we get no sympathy from straight people (because we don't have kids) and we are totally ignored by other gay people (since we don't have much money, we're useless to the gays who see themselves as much more important than they really are). So yea, I'd say a lot of gay men are basically on their own alone. We shit on each other and get off by doing so. When you are the only group at the bottom of the totem pole I have found that you're in a group that includes some of the most ruthless, catty, mean and manipulative people on the planet. Everyone needs someone to feel better than - with gay men, rather than attack the source of our rage and anger from being excluded from society, instead we attack other gay men who have nothing to do with whatever current situation we happen to be in. That should be included in Coming Out 101 - 'Don't expect other gay men to give a flying fuck about your existence just because you are gay and they are gay'.

It's hard to campaign for gay civil rights when you hate the majority of gay men who are on this earth because of their attitudes and how they treat each other. We have no trust. When you have no trust, you have no community.

That has already happened... I read in the paper a man married his donkey in some country I forget where

in Kathmandu its even practiced that young girls marry an idol of a god, like Krishna or something... so that when they reach sexual maturity they divorce him to marry a man... It helps to keep them away from marrying men before they are sexually mature... something which happens in many cultures..

    Excellent point.
So many hate mongers think that gay rights = special rights.

The best way to control the flow of a dialogue and ultimately its outcome is to change terms. I think it's a good idea.

    No.

Giving the word "gay" to mean "homosexual" among homosexuals end up killing the meaning of gay to mean happy, and now gay is used in a pejorative sense.

Giving the word "rainbow" to be the symbol of gay pride has resulted in major bans of rainbows being drawn among breeders.

We change a positive symbol to bring the positivity to us, they change the positivity to negativity.

We should just call the naysayers Christian Terrorists, or Jesus Rapists.

Also, (albeit slightly off topic), is it just me or are most of the major gay activists out there....well... snooty? I mean, in my personal experience, every gay I've met that's an activist has always thought that they're better than every other gay.
