I have to say Tina Turner is my QUEEN of choice!

The 50th anniversary of the Grammys brought out dozens of legends, but calling one of them "the queen," has upset Aretha Franklin.

In a statement, Franklin expressed her dismay at Beyonce calling her on-stage Grammy collaborator, Tina Turner, by the title, usually reserved for the "Respect" singer.

"I am not sure of whose toes I may have stepped on or whose ego I may have bruised between the Grammy writers and Beyonce, however I dismissed it as a cheap shot for controversy," Aretha said in a statement according to People. "In addition to that, I thank the Grammys and the voting academy for my 20th Grammy and love to Beyonce anyway."

Franklin, who performed her own collaboration at the Grammys is generally referred to as "the Queen of Soul."

Well Elvis is referred to as the king of rock n roll, and Jackson as the king of pop. Why can't there be two queens? I know Aretha is big enough to take the place of two queens, but it seems as if she is just being greedy.

Plus I do like Tina Turner actually. She seems more energetic and vibrant!

She seems more energetic and vibrant at age sixty fucking eight. The woman is a dynamo.

Well I like them both. But if you remember back in the 70's, Tina Turner was the Acid Queen [in Tommy]. I like her newer stuff better though.

The actual clip from tommy with her was creepy though (needles yuck)!

Oh, technically Tina is more considered a Queen of rock 'n roll along with Janis Joplin .. http://movies.nytimes.com/movie/50095/Tina-Turner-Queen-of-Rock-n-Roll/overview http://showbiz.sky.com/showbiz/article/0,,50001-1305295,00.html
her performances are more rock 'n roll than soul (like Aretha).

I agree with Active&Fit, I think of Tina Turner as a rock singer rather that a soul singer. I also prefer her music to Aretha's (but both are good at what they do).

I could never make a choice like that. Tina Turner videos still make people stop and watch at the gym I go to, me included. That one song, 'Soul to Soul' is powerful!
And Aretha! R-E-S-P-E-C-T!!! Come on!! Plus she was hysterical in the movie The Blues Brothers.

They are to different sounds. Tina is more rock and Aretha is R & B with a little gospel thrown in. I think that Reeree should have not made that comment. Beyonce` didn't write that, she just read it.

Neither. Millie Jackson is the queen of all soul. If you watch this don't click off before her monologue begins at 3:40.

Arthea Franklin is just plain fat. Well morbidly obese might be a better word.

Aretha made herself look like a big baby by even making that comment. Get over yourself Aretha.

jazz counts as soul right. Personally i think tina turner sings out of her nose and aretha is more soul than her but i think aguillera is the best in any category she trys at.

I agree, but Ms. Turner is the only one who can still wear mini skirts, heels and move like that at 68.

Nope, I prefer her old stuff better. She do more dance in comparison to the new songs. Song like Proud Mary (nice and rough), Honky Tonk Women, Give out of you love, Fool in Love is just unforgetable because the way she dance, especially with that 2 backup dancers. I hate to admit this, but I rather do Tina Turner Proud Mary as my aerobic routine than those boring exercise tape. Watching Tina make me wish I was born a beautiful black women, with long leg and powerful voice. Tina Turner is the Queen
