Kind of like how American auto companies don't make cars like they did in the 80's anymore. They learned their lesson.

Agreeing with the Mariah Carey post...has ANYONE ever listened to her music? She has the best vocal runs, they make the most sense, the LARGEST range of any singer I've ever heard and is booomb good.

That's easy. He's deceased but Luther Vandross was amazing. The Carpenters wrote this song and made it a classic but Luther set the bar like no other.

PUH-lease! Mariah is an amateur compared to Aretha. Check out this video of them performing together at Diva's Live. Aretha's backup singers do a better job than Mariah!

and doing a much better rendition of the same songs than MC does!

MC screeches wayyyyy to much...she gets irritating, showing off her vocal "range". icon_rolleyes.gif

cold said^^ LOL! Even on a stage like that Mariah makes sure she has 'wind' in her hair.

They still exist. This is an Australian singer I love. You've probably heard her songs before. Her voice is from another era; it isn't flashy, but it is enthralling and staggeringly beautiful.

Finally, someone pics a good current female artist.
    Sia is pretty awesome.

Billy Porter, and still alive...or Sturgess from Broadway (Little Mermaid as the Crab, or in the Heights as Benny).

people never look to broadway stars for best vocals, because those are really it, but they don't do hollywood bullshit

Aretha is purely a belter diva...Mariah carey has an octave and a half in both directions on her...Maybe in that video (since it's tailored for Aretha to obvi look the best) it's not showing, but MC is a better SINGER, and Aretha is a better belter.

MC can belt too, though! ;)

and her screech notes make perfect sense and harmonic sense it's just people aren't used to it, and don't care for it cuz no one else CAN really pull it off

Mariah is nothing but a thief, stealing most of her shit from other talented Artist, the bitch isn't good at all, & she's Fugly as All Hell!

With that being said, there are tons of singers who top singers of old.
For nothing is a better example of ones Unique ability than singing in ones own Language like Rammstein has shown, or even O-Zone.
Or a very talented singer Grégory Lemarchal. Very sad he died before he could bless the world with more of his uber talented songs.
And as for new Singers who have made it big, and no wonder why like Lady Gaga. I mean regardless if you like her (as if you even know her, get real) you have to have talent to become as big as she did in the time it took her. And her videos are uber hot!
And Leaves' Eyes has a most Unique and talented lead singer. Her voice is Phenomenal.
And Chris Salvatore, I mean Yoahzer, not only can he act, but he has a damn good voice.
But I must say very few in my mind even come close to topping Connie Francis. Vocals that were beyond Phenomenal, and the intelligence to sing in more languages then possibly any other singer.

But ones opinion will surely differ than another's. And who is to say someone is wrong. icon_confused.gif
