O my this movie was so out there...The setting is suppose to be New York city in the 50s, the movie brought to light some critiques of mines. The school scene were her mother came to bring her lunch, the class was filled with all white children so im wondering, if the teacher knew she was colored or mullato, would she be placed in a class with what they would consider her her peers? Its kind of fascinating how movies can show you certain facts of the past. The other interesting fact was when Laura went to the acting agency and scammed her way into the interview. When she called home, she used the fact that Annie was living with her to elevate her status, to be see as a well off actress by having a maid. As for Annie's daughter...i dont like calling people bad words but she fit the bill and not that i can blame her as she was a victim of society's intolerance to interracial coupling. Many interracial kids in the fifties grew up resenting being of mixed heritage as they didnt feel like they fit in or felt like they belonged...and being white was what they wished to be. There was just too much things to point out in this film that was good and bad. This movie was really good Hillie, im adding it to my collection. and heres the link if anyone wants to see it.
