Isn't that fabulous? He just sent me an RJ email invite, totally out of the blue. We spoke on the phone, made the arrangements! I am just thrilled! My partner will be with us.

A guy who really fascinates me here. I'll have a thousand questions for him. Isn't the Internet wonderful? I get to meet another member from RJ, and they are always great.

Sorry, you have to realize I come from a different world, an earlier world. This all remains amazing to me. Not that I can't play along as well as anyone else, and manage the technical stuff, but still, the results just knock me over.

Ah, well... tonight's focus is on meeting an RJ member. How wonderful our lives have become. icon_biggrin.gif

Sheesh, we really should spend more time re-reading our posts for editing.

'Wilton Manors is not too from, from, from.....'

Shoulda been 'not too FAR from, from....'

I'll have to give Doug a spankin' for poor typing and then...er, I gotta go now.

I knew they'd be great people, but I had no idea they'd be totally cool as fuck. Definitely gonna party with them at Alibi's next time I come back home.

Thanks! And you were the best of dinner company yourself, the greatest pleasure for both of us in meeting you. I think we all hit it off very nicely.

Sorry for the slow response here, we've been away from home since this morning, just got back about 30 minutes ago. We were visiting bicycle shops to drop off SMART Ride promotional material, and even with GPS we were having trouble finding some. GPS is NOT always accurate enough in urban situations.

And then hubby's widowed sister phoned us, that her car had a sudden mechanical problem requiring an immediate trip to her dealer. We had to break off the shop visits to rendezvous with her there, and then kept her entertained until the car was ready to drive away at 6 PM (we all went to this quirky & fun ice-cream parlor you may know north of you in Dania Beach, called Jaxson's).

All-in-all a long and exhausting day for 2 old guys, and after what you put us through last night by keeping us there until closing. icon_wink.gif

I've actually met three guys from RJ. They're all exceptionally great guys!

I communicate regularly with one, and see another for lunch at least once a month.

This community is so very, truly different than any social network out there. I love RJ and have found a way to push back from the laptop and have face to face time with new friends in real time, something no other site has ever afforded.

    XO

I met my first RJ-er on Sunday at Dore Alley.
Worked out real nicely though I wish we'd have had time to do something like dinner or lunch in a, er, quieter setting.

Not really an RJ story but: while in SF I went with a friend and his 2 sons to the "gay dads dinner" on the Castro. One of the other dads grew up in Ann Arbor. He's a bit younger than me so I didn't know him, but it turns out that my partner and I know his mother through work. In fact, my partner must have heard her tell stories of her gay son and his 2 beautiful kids. So when he heard this guy's story he put it all together and practically blurted out: "Is your mom such-and-such"?

It's a small world. When I met Wilton and his partner on one of my trips to South Florida a couple of months ago, I immediately recognized his partner. We went to the same place of worship. Wilton's partner and I have known each other for nearly 20 years! Talk about looks of surprise on faces!

Virtual online communities, like Real Jock, are valuable ways to meet people. When leveraged with "in real life" meetings, we complete the human connection with community in reality. We can then continue to utilize virtual online communities to "stay in touch" and to keep our connections vibrant and fresh, across the miles, and across time.

Keeping it all "online" can lead to isolation, and can be akin to masturbation. Keeping it all "in real life" can also lead to isolation, especially for those who are challenged with mobility, or those like me who travel frequently. I find it truly magnificent when I can combine virtual online community and "in real life" community to make and keep relationships with friends across the globe.

It can be an "and". It doesn't have to be an "or".

    Aloha and Be Well!

It's like meeting a pen pal whom you've gotten to know by correspondence, but have never met.

My mother has a pen pal of over 50 years, and yet the two women have never met.

I met a fellow Real Jocker once this year for a beer and chat, good time. He is on my hotlist too.
