Consumers are lashing out at the two popular chains despite a history of inclusiveness and support of our community. Why? Apparently they made contributions to a group supporting a candidate with an agenda of limiting civil rights of GLBT people.

It's unfortunate that two of my favorite stores have decided to put themselves in the political spotlight through corporate donations. But at least now I know. I guess it's just more incentive to shop local. Check out this YouTube video of a grandmother standing up for our rights in a big way!

For those of you so inclined here's a link to sign HRC's open letter to Target & Best Buy http://hrc.org.

I'm hearing this, and I'm waiting to learn more. Sometimes first-reads are deceptive. I'd rather not believe it, but the truth is what I want.

I agree that Target has previously been very gay-friendly, earning a high rating from HRC. Indeed, I myself saw their marching unit in Twin Cities Pride for a number of years, one of the largest there, over a hundred red-shirted Target employees parading down Hennepin Avenue. And their corporate booth in Loring Park for the festival was the biggest, among the many hundreds around the lake, and their give-aways the best.

And here in Florida, they have contributed to our HIV/AIDS ride that I do. In fact, as I'm typing this, a bicycle donated from Target, for which we're selling raffle tickets for the SMART Ride, is sitting in this office not 2 feet from me.

So I don't know what to think. I want to hear more, and see what the Target response is. Maybe the right hand didn't know what the left hand was doing. Right-wingers are constantly trying to infiltrate and subvert every aspect of American life, and perhaps a few got into positions of influence within Target. I would counsel patience until we see what happens next. But they need to act quickly.

It's true, unfortunately. Target in particular has been a great ally. Definitely get to MoveOn.org or HRC to sign petitions to let them know that we are paying attention. It is about Minnesota politics (both companies are based there, apparently). I would not, however, go into a Target and hassle the employees. They have nothing to do with it.
